Rams ditching quarterback Bulger?

“MarcWhen a team is 0-7, it can't be too shocking when rumors start to circulate that the starting quarterback is going to probably lose his job. That's what folks are saying about the big guy for the St. Louis Rams, Marc Bulger(notes), according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The Rams are expected to be very actively looking for a quarterback via free agency and in the 2010 draft, which it will likely be near the top of the picking list unless some miracle happens and the Rams starting winning some games.

The 31-year-old Bulger was a Pro Bowler in 2006 but he's now at the helm of a team with a 17-game losing streak.

It's looking like the Rams are hoping to go the young-gun route and find success as the Baltimore Ravens did with Joe Flacco(notes) and the Atlanta Falcons did with Matt Ryan(notes) last year.

yep. now who do they take this year? don't tell me Sam Bradford - that guy's gonna flop in the NFL. I love Tim Tebow, but I think he'll be a project, and he certainly won't be a first round pick.

Rams needed o-line help though, so they were smart to pass on the extremely overrated Sanchez.
They figured Bulger had at least 1 more year left in him....but doesn't look like it. With a strong QB class coming up they should be able to find his replacement though. Sanchez wouldn't have been a good fit in St. Louis this year. He'd have been destroyed there....that is if he started (which he wouldn't have).

    #2,
You think Bradford is gonna flop but you like Tebow?
    Is it backwards day?
I like Tebow too.....as a fullback or TE! Shouldn't sniff the QB spot in the NFL unless it's a wildcat formation.
Bradford, Locker, or Clausen are who the Rams will likely look at in the draft.

ah #4 sorry I didn't clarify - yes, I like Tebow as a TE or FB (or even HB). I think he could play QB in the NFL, but it would have to be in the right system (you got it right with the Wildcat). Bradford just doesn't seem to have the natural athleticism that a guy like Matt Ryan or Mark Sanchez has.

also...I meant I love Tebow as a college player - the way the guy prepares, trains, plays the game...he reminds me of Tyler Hansborough. Not the most naturally gifted athlete, but they work hard at what they do.

Its not Bulger who is at fault. The offensive line gives no protection and the play calling SUCKS.

#11 I agree, the Rams OL sucks so bad it isn't even funny. Bulger is one of the toughest QB's ever, He has taken a beating on almost every snap. Not saying He's that good ,either, but the OL has to give any QB a little time or............ hell, Brady couldn't pass behind this OL. The Rams by all accounts are a disgace to the NFL, period.

its not all bulger the only good blocker he has is steven jackson and a starting 2nd or 3rd reciver avrey is good but he's no #1...I think they would take colt Mccoy tebow won't be availible unless they get number one because somebodys (jaguars or bill) or gonna trade up to get a quaterback its not that garrad isn't good but they need someone who can sell seats. I think colt will end up the best QB out of that draft but don't get down on tim because he is a athtlete he will do much more than vick as a passer and still has legs I hate to compare rookies to hall of famers but Steve Young ring a bell

I'm perfectly fine with the Rams seeking new talent. Perhaps the O-line is at fault, but Bulger needs to be a better QB when it breaks down. When you watch it happen, you can just see him getting frustrated. The majority of the time he just ends up throwing the ball near the feet of an eligible receiver when the play fails because he thinks there's no other way out. He is not a versatile QB...
Two words...say it with me...Mike Vick.
Vick should have been at the top of our list when he was available. Even with his issues, he would've been a solid backup to start the season. Especially now when we see our offensive line break down every other play. When that happens, you need a scrambling QB. I think Vick would have exceptional success with the Rams, and if there's still a chance, we should make a deal and trade up with Philly. Just sayin...

Tebow as a fullback?? he'll look like Red in the movie Friday when Dee-bo knocks him the F&%k out!! I could see him as a TB or WR maybe. He could make it as a special teams guy and someday work his way into a regular NFL position. He's a small step above the Ken Dorsey, Eric Crouch, and Jason White's of the world, but not much more, when it comes to playing in the NFL. Sorry FL Gator fans.

Sam Bradford Overrated? Doesn't win big games? I think your thinking of his Coach Big Game bob, for the losses he has in the big games. Sam bradfords stats against Texas.....
    2007: 21-32, 244 Yards, 3 Td's 0 Int's. He Was a Freshman against Number 10 Texas then.
    2008: 28-39, 387 Yards, 5 td's 2 int's/
    2009: Hurt.
Then against Florida He didn't have the greatest game, but when the team around you isn't performing then its kind of hard to carry them against a Team like Florida. His stats for that Game are as Follows:
    26-41, 256 Yards, 2 Td's 2 Int's
But lets see the Three games boefre the National Championship loss were against
    Texas Tech #12
    Oklahoma St #16
    Missouri #19
His combined stats for those three games....Get Ready....
    78-112, 1058 Yards, 10 Td's 0 Int's.
He won't be around for the Rams to draft him anyways. He will be picked up by the 49ers who have two first round picks and will trade one of those picks and a couple later round picks to move up and grab him.

Drew Brees or Tom Brady would not succeed in St. Louis, so how does management or the media think Bulger would, or any other young draft pick for that matter.
Getting put on your back every snap = zero success - for any QB. Until the Rams address the big problems, starting with offensive line, it's going to be the same song and dance.

Ok, so how does anyone go ahead of the Rams in this upcoming draft when the Rams will be 0-16? Does not the number 1 pick go to the worst team? What team is worst than the Rams this year at this point? I'm a Rams fan from Orange County. I wouldn't mind the Rams losing if they'd put up a fight! But losing consistently to the scores of 42-6, 35-7, 28-0, 44-10 Come on! Even the Lions last year were, at least, competitive in quite a few games. The reason Bulger gets beat up and the O-line sucks is because the Rams have no one on offense other than Jackson! If the Rams had a go-to wide receiver and a QB with toughness and leadership then defenses wouldn't be stacking the line and blitzing 50% of the time! Defenses would then have to play the Rams differently. Drew Brees is a leader! Bulger is not! I've never seen Bulger before the game screaming and shouting with all the offensive players surrounding him like I've seen with Brees. Case closed!

"Picking list"??? How about using a football term such as "draft order", you dopey journalist wannabe. Never mind Bulger, I'm waiting for Mark J Miller to lose his job as a writer (which is a generous title for him). Did everyone see how he referred to Plaxico Burress as "Placido" yesterday? Maybe someone could trade a leaky football and a poster of Joe Theismann to Yahoo in exchange for Miller. I'm sure there are plenty of competent writers out there who would take the job seriously.

The rams need to trade down because this is supposed to be a very talented draft. They trade their #1 and they'll get at least a top 15 1st and a 3rd rounder.
They need PLAYERS not A player... I never understand why teams do that. If you're 0-16, you have a talent problem. Trade Steven Jackson for a 2nd and 3rd, trade down in the first and now you have 4-6 players for the price of 2. On a team like StL, they need the quantity and this draft is supposed to be extremely deep.

You all talk like it's a done deal...didn't Warner teach you anything? I have never liked Bulger's red zone efficiency...but he can hit the spot of the third look down if the Line gives the time and the receiver (not plural because only newbie Amendola is hitting the spot) is in the right position. New blood is good...but if receivers don't hit the mark...whats the difference. They are starting to click..and they don't look discouraged..I like that. If they don't beat Lions...then I may hop on board just for the change.
