No gauntlet was thrown down. No chest was puffed out. There wasn't so much as a single double-dog dare issued.

"No grand proclamations out of me," Oakland Raiders special teams coach Brian Schneider said Thursday. "You ain't getting nothing out of me, that's for sure."

No one knows what happened to the real Schneider, but he better not be harmed. This is the coach who announced to the world his unit would punt the ball to Bears star Devin Hester. The Raiders did, and they stopped the unstoppable Pro Bowler six times for 14 yards on punts.

This week, the Raiders face New Orleans Saints star Reggie Bush, who returned two punts for touchdowns Monday on national television. Suddenly, Schneider got one-part shy and two-parts coy about the plan going in.

"Let's put it this way," Schneider said. "We're going to try to not give him the ball and we're preparing that, if he gets the ball, we have to be ready to tackle him. Hopefully, he has no punt returns."

The surest way to keep Bush from returning punts is to never punt, but that's not realistic for this offense. The Raiders are 31st in third-down efficiency and 29th in first downs per game — and don't think they're getting it all done on second down either.

So, chances are the Raiders will have to punt. Punting is often their best offensive weapon, in terms of field position. Shane Lechler is one of the best punters in the game, and one of the best statistically all-time.

His distance doesn't help against Bush, though. The more space between Bush at the point of catch and the nearest defender, the more wiggle room he has to make them miss.

Well for starters the Raiders can try ball control and keep him off the field.and outscore them like the Vikes did.

On special teams, the Raiders challenged Devin Hester last year with success, shutting him down at the Coliseum against the Bears. Kicking on the road in the Superdome, Shane Lechler is likely to shoot for corners and sidelines to keep Bush penned in on punt returns.

Do like they did to Hester. Kick to him and let the special teams do their job like they did last year. I have confidence in them. They had one bad coverage against SD at the end of the game. If the O scores some points and uses some clock it is a non issue.

He has the ability to make plays .... but why develop a special plan to stop Reggie Bush. He hasn't proven to be a consistent force. ...bet they account for him which is all they need. The special plan is in place to stop the Saints as a team . Raiders 24-17

The RAIDERS run D has been pretty good this season , let's hope the offense keeps them off the field for a good part of the GAME . so in the 4th they are still solid and not so winded . Special teams will have to step it up in order to keep Bush from being an issue . RAIDERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our run d has been pretty good this year but Burgess might be out. Plus the Saints like to dump the ball off to Bush instead of him just getting a hand off. We need to watch for that. WE might as well kick to him but if he scores on a run back, we might want to kick away from him. The Vikes missed a lot of tackles on him and if the we do that, we are screwed. So special teams, wrap him up. Tackle him low.

RFFL. If CAble gets Jamarcus rolling, we will win. The offensive needs to keep putting up points or we will fizzle again.

actually as a running back he is not overrated..he is one of the best at sucking in defenses so Brees can do his thing in the passing game (which is one of the best this year). He MUST be accounted for at all times. When he does get the ball as a running back true he is not very good and fumbles waaay too much..But as an overpaid decoy he is pretty good. Sorry Oakland...Saints 34 Oakland 27

The Raiders ain't got a plan period. With Al Davis still suckin precious oxygen from the rest of natural humanity, they'll be lucky if they win any games. Just croak, baby.
Actually, with Kiffin as coach they did pretty well vs. Hester...and Bush is no Hester.
