Yes, loyal members of the Raider Nation, it can get worse. There are those in the Bay Area beginning to wonder out loud if this is the worst team in the storied history of the Silver and Black?
Seriously, this might be the darkest hour in Raiders history. The team was 2-12 in 1961, 1-13 in '62, and 2-14 two seasons ago. The Raiders are 2-6 now and could win another game or two. But when you put it all together, this might be the Raiders' all-time low, because hope does not seem to loom on the horizon. Consider:
• The Raiders spent a ton of money in the offseason for some legitimate (they believed) talent, none of which has delivered.
• They came into the season with a young but hugely talented and massively up-sided quarterback, who looked as shaky as a quarterback can look Sunday.
• The organization is in shambles, with Davis melting down, unable to properly hire or fire a coach and fresh out of solutions to any of the team's problems.
• Assuming the Raiders continue their nosedive, they will secure a high draft pick that will cost them a fortune, which, along with what they're paying JaMarcus Russell and Darren McFadden, will put them in a deep red-ink hole and ruin their chances to rebuild the team.
• At season's end, Davis again will roll the desperation dice on a coach, opting for another cheap-date longshot. Davis is getting older but there's no evidence he's getting wiser.
