NFL - Sports Rumors

“BenPittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger(notes) took a nasty blow to the helmet from an errant knee during overtime of Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs 27-24.

Some say he had a concussion, but a team source is saying its tests are showing that it wasn't a concussion, just a good old-fashioned bell-ringing. Either way, it appears that Roethlisberger will be back next weekend for the Steelers game against the Baltimore Ravens, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Backup Charlie Batch(notes) is likely done for the season, though, after he supposedly broke his wrist on the one offensive series in which he replaced Roethlisberger.

It appears that the Steelers will sign Tyler Palko(notes), who quarterbacked for Pitt, to the practice squad and just go with two quarterbacks on the roster; third-stringer Dennis Dixon(notes) will move up to the backup role.

You see how much the steelers care about concussion caution.

I agree Dave D. Give Dennis Dixon a shot. This was my favorite college player. Go Dixon.

I understand what you guys are saying, dave d and Nathan L. And I am a Steelers fan. However, my understanding is that Ben had CONCUSSION-LIKE SYMPTOMS, and not actually a concussion.
I do agree though, that precautions are needed.

If this wasn't a division game, Ben wouldn't be playing. Mike Tomlin/Omar Epps needs to take a step back and re-evaluate this decision. Didn't he see the hit Ray Lewis laid on Pierre Garcon on Sunday. Ben can't handle that kind of hit after the"Concussion-like Symptoms".

Whats up with the comment "after he supposedly broke his wrist on the one offensive series in which he replaced Roethlisberger."? Supposedly?? I would think that if he is put on IR for a broken wrist.....it is, what they say it is. I dont get it.....
And for posters 1-3, I believe they are very cautious about Ben and concussions. It would be stupid to play Ben if he had a concussion. 1. He is a great player and has done a great deal for your team. 2. You have millions of dollars invested in his future. If Ben has a concussion, it would be stupid to risk his and your teams future on 1 game.

Tomlin will be exposed for the below average coach he is. the only thing i enjoy more (when the stealers are on) than when that cheap shot artists hines ward gets blown up. is when rapo, ben gets lit up.
Play him with that soft squash of his please.

The Steeler's have the best neurologist in the nation as an advisor to their medical staff. He was brought on for just this type of situation. He was the first team neurologist approved by the NFL. He's even more qualified than the NFL and NFLPA medical staff that approved him. He is also the same Dr. that Westbrook and Portis went to to be evaluated by. I'm pretty certain that Ben has been checked by him and was given a qualified assestment.

I would be less concerned about Ben playing and more concerned about how that D is going to step it up without Palmalu.
Steelers D = mediocre with out him.

LOL... Funny how all the loser haters are on a Steeler rumor blog...LOL
No good news with your lousy teams, huh? The Steelers won the Super Bowl last Feb, and Steeler Nation is still excited about it. The Steelers will have a great shot at repeating once they get into the playoffs. I now, step 1 is to get into the playoffs, and to get there they have to fix their Special Teams play and do away with those red zone mistakes. The D is playing OK, they are not losing cause of Troy. I guess a SB hangover does exist, I sure had one Monday after the SB 43... LOL

Steelers Coaches, please rethink this. You don't want your ex-quarterback to be mentally impaired for life; Bradshaw is bad enough.

All you crying dress wearing b@tches get over it ! In the NFL it is known that when you are cleared you play, thats why they pay DR's to evaluate. I am a huge Ben fan but I stand behind the Dr's and coaches if he is cleared he should play. If your quarterback was in the same situation you wouldnt be saying a dam thing!!!
P.S. Kansas City thank you for a good game and great tailgating we had a blast!!!

Posts 1-3....idiots.....do you realize this guy gets paid 100 million dollars by what most people consider the best run franchise in sports???? I don't think you really know what your talking about in comparison to the people making a decision on whether he plays or not. Go watch college football. Dennis Dixon can't run that offense.

So the Steelers are going to risk Big Ben's long term health just because the only other QB is their third stringer? Someone should step in and stop this.
