NFL - Sports Rumors

With the Cleveland Browns struggling and the rumors that head coach Romeo Crennel will be fired at the end of the season, Bill Cowher already is on the radar screen. But blips likely will be sounding in other cities, too, according to the Sporting News.

Such as Kansas City, where coach Herm Edwards, a supposed defensive guru, gave up 54 points to a Bills team that previously couldn't find the end zone with a map, a compass and a telescope.

Or Detroit. Or even Dallas, if the Cowboys encounter difficulty when their schedule stiffens in December.

Or maybe even Philadelphia, if owner Jeffrey Lurie decides that he's seen enough from the power structure that has delivered periodic success and, currently, mediocrity.

Bottom line? With Cowher's name already being seriously linked to at least one opening, look for him to become attached to several more looming vacancies as well.

Cowher is a good coach, but he was a product of GREAT ownership. If he had coached in any other city he would not have been around to sniff a suberbowl in 2005. If he wants to keep his status as one of the better living coaches, he needs to stay in the studio.

The eagles just need their offense to click, and defense has to "take away"

Bring cowher to Cleveland, Crennel is throwing quinn in, then back to anderson trying to save his job. Crennel is supposed to specialize in defense and the browns have next to the worst defense in the NFL. If Cowher goes anywhere, he'll land in Cleveland since GM savage decided to curse out a fan through email, so that will open up complete control of a team which is the only way he'll coach.

Cowher's going to sign with a team that'll give him total autonomy, but isn't a total crap team that he can't turn around in a year or so and become a contender with. Cleveland seems to fit both classifications. Philly is a possibility. Dallas has too strong an owner, Kansas City is a few years and draft picks away from contending (not to mention it's in Kansas City), and Detroit is a joke of a franchise so forget that. Cleveland and Philly seem to be the two most logical destinations. But we've seen NFL teams fire coaches despite having really good, playoff-bound seasons (calling Marty-ball). So this will be an unanswered question until after the season.

Let Philly grab him, we don't have a g@y relationship between a QB and WO or a team that deserves to be playing in a high school league

Anywhere but Dallas. I am a big fan of Cowher, but I doubt T.O. will like Cowher's toughness. That's why he likes Wade so much because he can be as selfish as he wants and no one says a thing. T.O. is great, but he is selfish as hell. Best bet is Philly.

there is no way Bill Cowher goes to the Cowboys, he the type of coach that likes to work with a general manager he does not need a owner as a general manager besides, Jerry Jones doesn't believe in disciplinarian coach otherwise he wouldn't have brought Wade Phillips this is what Jerry jones is looking for in a coach Jerry Jones needs a puppet and there is no way Bill Cowher in this gods green earth is that that man has accomplished way too much to go and work for Jones despite the fact the money is a factor, Cowher is not getting back to coaching unless he can find a team that allows him to have complete say in personnel it's as simple as that and there is no way Jerry jones is gonna aloow that.

Next to Chuck Noll, Cowher's accomplishments in Pittsburgh are legendary.
...in Cleveland, he will become immortal.
The Browns should pay any price and concede as much control necessary to secure his services.
Hall of Fame Tradition + quality, disciplined players + competent, motivated coaches = NFL success.
This year, obviously, 1 and 1/2 out of three won't cut it.

1stBallotHOF: How many Superbowls have Tony Dungy, John Gruden, Mike Holmgren, Mike Ditka, John Madden, etc., all won? 1, just like Cowher. Just because he's only won 1 title, it doesn't take away from his NFL success or legendary status.

If I remember correctly, he won exactly one more in 14 yrs as HC of the Steelers than Cleveland has over the last 42 years. And, um, he took them twice...Any other questions?
