Veteran outside linebacker Aaron Schobel(notes) got released by the Buffalo Bills last week, opening the doors for him to sign anywhere as a sudden free agent. Though the Texas native has interest in returning to his home state and playing for the Houston Texans, CSN New England is reporting that the New England Patriots have a "strong" interest in signing Schobel, who had 10 sacks last season for the Bills.

Schobel, 32, has been known to be a Patriots killer for a long time and they would like to have him on their side of the ball.

Schobel had 56 tackles, three forced fumbles and an interception last season.

The Washington Post reported when Schobel was released that he had been considering retirement and hadn't shown up for camp. "If he chooses to retire, he will do so as a Buffalo Bill. But this move allows him the opportunity to play somewhere else if [he] so chooses and we felt that was a fair thing to do for a guy who has played hard for us the past nine seasons," Bills general manager Buddy Nix said in a written statement at the time.
