Patriots sign ex-Jet linebacker Hobson

The New England Patriots decided they couldn't wait until the NFL draft later this month to upgrade at inside linebacker, so they waded into the free agent pool and plucked out former New York Jet Victor Hobson, signing him to a one-year deal.

The acquisition of the 28-year-old Hobson, who spent the first five seasons of his career with New York, is less about the latest broadside in the Border War with the Jets and their coach, Eric Mangini, and more about the Patriots bolstering their linebacking corps.

The 6-foot, 252-pound Hobson was used as a strong-side outside linebacker in the Jets' 3-4 defense the last two seasons, but was really not suited for the position. He is stout against the run and has a body type more suited to 3-4 inside linebacker, which is where the Patriots plan to use him.

we still need some more lb's particularly inside, we are still old and incapable of shutting down a left to right tail back from a power formation. i think we would use a high second pick to get a lb we need another corner........what about pac man we can get em together? what is up with that kid jackson from florida? he is like a ghost havent heard too much from em these last couple of.....is this the reason we let stallworth go to cleveland and my boy romeo?

    18 wins straight....beating the dolphins.....awesome, and historical.
The one loss.....tough break....but forgetable for most.....unless your a new york fan, you'll need to hold on to that win for about 20 years.
Hobson, pretty good pick up. Now his career should take off.

Great move for the Pats. Besides, Pats, Jints show the 4-3 D is better than the 3-4(aka 'prevent') at stopping run (crowded line) and pass (more hands, pressure upfront). Mangini is a chump. The only reason why he was a good first year coach is because he inherited a working 4-3 scheme. Now, the Jets will lose for years to come. Oh, and Seau, the door is over there!!!

Really, Jets were 4-12 in a weak division for a reason. This LB was part of the problem, not part of the cure. But, even my grandma would add youth to the NE LB corps, and she's dead. Thus, great move for NE. I don't need to hold onto a win for 20 years - not like NE clutches their last SB win, like how many years ago now??? I know it was a time before PITTS, INDY, NY wins - so long, I can't remember!

Doesnt matter who you slap a 50ish jersey on in New England, they seem to fit right in....be it Seau,or Rosey Colvin,or Chad Brown,or Adalius Thomas....this is where linebackers go to succeed.

Crux - your Martz quote was taken out of context. The whole thing said "The Eagles are not a good team, but a GREAT one."
