Packers eyeing Culpepper as reserve QB?

Daunte Culpepper, one of the Green Bay Packers' chief rivals from his days with the Minnesota Vikings, could be the favorite to become Aaron Rodgers' top backup.

The 31-year-old veteran quarterback visited the Packers Wednesday, and the two sides could strike a deal before this weekend's draft. Culpepper arrived in Green Bay on Tuesday evening and spent most of today at the team's facility.

"We had him in for a visit, and it was a good visit," General Manager Ted Thompson said late this afternoon. "We wanted to kind of introduce ourselves to him and he to us, so it went fine."

That'd be good for the Packs so long as he isn't challenging people to races like he did in Oakland and injured himself. I forgot who beat him though.

It would be good for Aaron Rodgers to have a backup, Culpepper was once a great player and maybe he will do better now that he has no more injury problems. Even then, it is good to have a mentor for a young quarterback, Aaron learned alot from Farve and now he will have another vet to learn from. I think it is a good deal for Green Bay to get Daunte.

Say what you will about the last two years for him. The year with Miami was lost because he came back from injury too soon and the team wasn't that good. Last year with Oakland, they also were not a good team, so he's had no chance to really make a good comeback. Coming to Green Bay could be a smart move for him too, not just the team, who needs a backup. He's got veteran experience, and if he's all the way back from his knee injury and playing for a good team, and can build his confidence in the system, the Packers might have a good insurance policy for Rodgers, who may not be the most durable guy to make it through a whole season. Then, if they draft a QB, which many expect they will, it takes the pressure off that guy to be ready sooner; that person can develop over time.

I believe that would be a great pick up for all parties. Last time Pepps was 100% let's not forget only one person threw for more touchdowns than him in he whole NFL and the was Peyton Manning's record setting year. With The Pack's history with QB's Pepps can teach Aaron and polish his game and bring a little mobilty to the QB position but for now it's all about Aaron he impressed me so much in the Cowboys game if he plays like that all season we will be back in the hunt! OH YEAH GO PACK! GO!!!!!!!!

Culpepper isn't good. I dont know why the packers would want him. He fumbles too much and he only had so many yards beacuse he had moss and chris carter. Green Bay never lost a game because of Culpepper.

Getting rid of one old QB and signing another?? Not a good idea. I do not personally like Aaron Rodgers, but dang let the man do his thing already....95% of the packers is young guys anyways and they still had a great season at that..So let Rodgers do his thing and sign some youth under him.

probably a smart idea. besides Matt Ryan, Brian Brohm, and Joe Flacco, the quarterbacks in the draft didn't look too impressive. The Packers will probably draft a CB in the 1st and by the time the second round comes along, those three will be gone. Maybe they'll draft a second CB in the 2nd or 3rd?

Culpepper may not be good, I loathed him in Minnesota but Tavaris Jackson makes him look like a genius. The Vikings should have him instead of Ferotte.

I think it will be great for the Packers. He may not have been as good as Favre, but he still is a veteran. Hopefully Rogers will rub off of Favre and Culpepper. If he is any good, then he may to, become a hall of famer. We will just have to wait and see.
    GO PACKERS!!!!!

Excuse me, did I read something about the Packers having a "history with QBs" ???? It takes 4 Packer fans to change a light bulb, 1 to change the bulb and 3 to talk about how good the old one was. Starr was great, Farve was great, but everything in between was a flash in the pan at best.

OH and I definitely don't want Culpepper rubbing off on Rodgers (to the guy above). Its not like he's a prototype QB. I don't know if I want Favre rubbing off on him either. I love Favre but he's a once in a lifetime kinda guy that can make the way he played work. 97.4% of the guys that play like he did end up out of hte league or as a third stringer very quickly.

Who said he would be playing? He is probably there for support. Rogers will need all the help in the upcoming season. Who knows. Culpepper might be good for something.

He should back up Nall. Rogers has never proven that he can be an NFL quarterback other than in practice. Put the three of them in cmpetition and Nall would win when it comes to game performance, and that is where it counts.

5 franchises with great QBs to go thru there system, Colts, Cowboys, Steelers, Dolphins, Packers, Giants, Raiders. Oh, sorry, that's 7 and there is more if you want to check the history of the NFL. The Majik man had 1 good year, then got hurt before Farve replaced him. Tomzcak, Bono & McMahon started in other systems.

Packers are trading Quitter for Quitter ie. Favre Quit the Packers , Culpeper Quit the vikings. Boy are you packers ticked now about that comment ^ . The Pack will Forever be searching for a Farve replacement . I will even choke back and give credit he had a heck of an Arm. But you never said his name correctly, Ask any Cajun its FAV REY. How long would it been before laughed out of football. GOOD LUCK WITH CULLPEPER WITH HIS small hands. Go vikings

As a Viking fan, I would like to say my bigggest problem with Culpepper is/was (I quit paying attention to him when he left Minn) his severe lack of good judgement. The guy makes way too many bad decisions. I know he probably does way better than I ever could, but there are plenty others that do it way better than he. In Minnesota, his saving grace was his ability to run, and Randy Moss actually wanted to play (another guy I can do without).

look out, the packers would be considreably better off with him. did you notice that after he left the vikings his performance slacked off and alot of people thought he was done, but look at the teams he played for. he gets behind a line that can actually block and we might see the culpepper of old.
