NFL - Sports Rumors

“EliNew York Giants quarterback Eli Manning(notes) has had a lot of troubles with his feet this season and the troubles have apparently gotten worse, according to the New York Post. Because of this, the team is supposedly considering just putting him on the bench for the rest of the season.

Manning apparently has a "stress reaction" on a bone in his right foot that hurts like hell. That could lead to a stress fracture, which would definitely put him on the shelf for the rest of the year.

But with a 6-5 record that puts his team in third place in the NFC East, it seems silly to overwork the guy. This team isn't going anywhere close to the Super Bowl this year.

If the Giants win the next two, WORST CASE SCENARIO they're a game back of the division leader. Still plenty of football left.

i like how yahoo rode the coat tails of the giants during their 5-0 run in the beginning of the season. but its obvious they took advantage of a cupcake schedule at the beginning of the season when their only impressive win was a last minute victory in dallas, even when allowing over 200 yards rushing. this team sucks with or without eli.

and no nick, this season is over for the giants. there are too many good teams in the nfc for a wildcard to be possible and i think the eagles and cowboys are playing too good for the giants to catch up.

if the season ended now they would make the playoffs, and if they win the rest of their games they make the playoffs, its in their own hands right now

Shut Eli down. The O-Line is not what it used to be, specifically Seubert and Diehl. They can't run block so it's all on Eli and the passing game. If he's hurt, let him rest and rebuild the O-Line for next season.

Can't blame Yahoo for liking the G-Men though. SuperBowl two years ago. Last year best record in NFC. AT 5-0 they looked real good.

    Anthony C,
Interestingly enough, even though you say this season is over for the Giants, there are still 5 games left to be played. If the Giants win two in a row, they would have a Wild Card Spot at the very least, but get you're jawwing in now, being a Cowboys fan it's just about that time of year when your team becomes the laughing stock of the NFL.

ever see a team who is under-achieving on both sides of the ball, lose a qb, or a back only to rally around the new guy and breeze through the rest of the schedule? Young? Young? Brady? Hostetler? (gag) romo? how about the other number-one-pick-over-all david carr? he's more athletic and accurate than eli.
our defense sucks not our qb. if someone doesn't show our lb's and db's how to cover OR tackle, you're right.
    big blue's done.

Cripes, people -- losing Eli wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, you know. Carr has shown himself to be quite capable in the NYG system. He can still play the game at a high level. Let Eli rest his wheel, and give Carr the ball for awhile.
This is perfect week for it. We have what is currently one of the most inept offenses in the game coming into town -- a perfect chance to get the D back on track. Give Carr the start and let's see if they can't get this thing turned around.

This is an exerpt from the Romo pinkie incident from last year:
If the timetable is correct, Romo, who will not require surgery, will miss three games. The Cowboys have a bye Nov. 9.
Romo was not available for comment.
"Different people heal differently," coach Wade Phillips said.

The next game will tell the tale for Eli. If the Giants win, they are still alive. If Dallas wins, they are done. Eli can rest his foot for the rest of the season.

Let Carr take some practice with the first team to get in sync and he should do fine. He is working on a contract so he has alot to show a team for next year. He didn't look bad in preseason.
Season is a wash already. Decent draft pick coming in 2010!!
