NFL wants more games in London

These days, London gets one NFL game every year to stage in is Wembley Stadium. But the plan is apparently to add another next season, according to BBC News.

In fact, if it goes well enough next year, NFL UK bigwig Alistair Kirkwood is saying the league would like to have four games across the pond by 2012.

And why not? The place is jammed every time the NFL comes to the place, meaning a boatload of dollars for whatever team agrees to come on over. This weekend, the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers get their share.

Kirkwood would like to have one game at the end of September and one at the end of October next year.

Only if you can get the fans to bathe and get a hair cut...or at least brush that mop.

Okay uber you cretin would you please refrain from xenophobia? You`re looking like a bigot and a dumbazz. Aslong as the CFL exists m_khan it`s going to be hard for the NFL to utilize that market....the bills may yet change that.

If fans are so interested in American football over there why did the NFL Europe fold?

Play the preseason games there. They don't mean anything to American fans and European fans wouldn't know the difference.
STOP taking games away from hard working Americans that love their teams. It's complete BS.
I will be royally POed if my Browns ever play a home game anywhere but in Cleveland Browns Stadium. Even though we suck, we still sell out every game. There is no reason to go anywhere else to play, period.

If you want do a "barnstorming" series in Europe, why not allow teams like the Jags, Bengals, etc that are having trouble selling out do "barnstorming" games in non-NFL cities in the US?
I just don't understand the point of a NATIONAL league (which is what the NFL is) playing in an international locale... It doesn't make any sense for a regular season game.
This isn't the "international football league" its the National Football League. Meaning its nation specific.

I don't like the fact that the NFL takes games away from our fan base. The NFL should be carefull. I think if you take to many games away from the American public we might start turning away.

the worse thing about this is it's a crappy place to play football for weather purposes. The Giants and Dolphins a few years ago was a 13-10 torture of a NFL game. It was raining sideways and windy. I know we get bad weather in games here, but that is their norm over there, cold, rainy, and windy. Who wants to lose a home game to play in that crap on the other side of the Ocean.

OG. Let the damned British get their own football league going (hahaha oh wait...that didnt go so well)...wanna see a game? Hop an effing flight!
If they are going to have more games over there the least they can do is get the teams a NFL type stadium not a soccer one...
NFL is American! Next thing we know we are going to give up apple pie to some third world country as their nation's main dish.
I like Matt's idea...you should put that in the NFL suggestion box.

Hopefully the NFL can send a few quality matchups overseas to showcase the best we have to offer. I think the NFL has an uphill battle to compete with truly international sports such as soccer and tennis, but it is a good move with little downside in my opinion. I personally want to share football with as many audiences as possible. I don't think fans will object to seeing their teams play on an international stage, though I do understand why some might be angry to miss out on attending a home game in their own city. I also worry about the long distance travel negatively affecting a team's ability to play their best. A west coast team would definitely suffer more than a east coast opponent (if playing in London), but I'm sure that if the games are timed properly-- before a bye week--- the effects will be minimized. I suppose that if the NFL decides to play games in Mexico City as well (as they did in 2005), then wc teams could meet there and ec teams could jaunt to London or other european cities. NFL Europe wasn't viable because it really didn't have a financial basis.... it may have been too ambitious for its time. I don't want to see another european league... just some games played over there to stoke interest in the sport.

This is stupid. Football is and always will be for Americans!
Its not soccer! The only reason soccer is popular is because 3rd world countries play it. All you need is a open field and ball to kick around its simple, No rules. Thats why it will always be #1 in the world
Football is more intelligent. Its harder to understand. Last year people were booing kneel downs at the end of the game because they didn't understand it. Thats how stupid foreigners are.
You want to add something to football? How about instead of a London game. You make every team play a superbowl type game where they are both in neutral territory. Have the Chargers play the Cowboys in Dakota or some place. A place that doesn't have a football team. Cities can prepare a superbowl like welcome. Garner more attention for cities to maybe get a team unlike area's such as Jacksonville who dont care about their team. Thats what the NFL should do.

Do I see a bit of David Stern In Roger Goodell? he'd better be careful, this is the NFL not the NBA, decisions like this and thinking about an 18 game regular season and playing the Super Bowl ,the biggest Sporting Event our country has, in a foreign country have me VERY, VERY concrened.

Clearly a stupid idea. Let the European teams form a league and play out a full schedule and playoffs. The winner of that playoff can fly here to the states and play a championship game against the best in the NFL, very easy and Little League Baseball has shown that it works. The End.

A proposterous comment that if the NFL expands globally that Americans will stop watching the sport. What a nonsense comment.
However People in the UK don't have any interest for the NFL except when it comes once every year because it's a novelty. If you start putting many games there they won't come out in droves.
Also the games have literally been crap games except the Saints. vs. Dolphins. The NFL has sent winless teams. Great way to market your sport send crap.
Soccer is the most famous sport and football wont' change it. Europeans can't understand why we like a sport in which the action on the field is in short spurts while Americans can't get a grasp on what makes soccer so interesting when many times a team plays keep away. There is no thrilling finish in Soccer. If a team is up 3-1 in the last half hour of the game you might as well turn it off. However in the NFL a team can be down 20 points in the fourth and come back to win the game on a touchdown in the final seconds.

I find it funny, we Americans get Butt-hurt that globally American football isn't considered as big as Futbol. The moment we try to promote it in another country, we turn into a bunch of 3-year-olds yelling "mine, mine."
    .
I do agree these should be preseason, and not rob ticket holders of a home game. Still, American Football needs to be promoted beyond the U.S and Canada. It brings this awesome sport to the global level, and expands the scope in which potential college players can be recruited.
    .
Quick idea for everyone - What about offering the Pro-Bowl to a different foreign city every year? If they'll sell out Wimbledon to see the Bucs, imagine the response to seeing our best players in one game?
