NFL - Scoop Du Jour

Ben RoethlisbergerPittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger(notes) has been accused of sexual assault twice over the last nine months.

The most recent one, which came to light on March 5, hasn't yet led to any kind of official charges in Georgia. When that charge comes, the Steelers or the league might immediately deal out some kind of fine or penalty, even if he's not convicted, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

"I'm highly concerned for our franchise and for Ben personally," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said.

Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert is still saying that the team has no plans to draft a quarterback in the early rounds of the upcoming draft, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. "That position appears to be set," Colbert said.

In my heart I hope this thing blows over, and Ben is proven innocent, but in my brain, I know that is long shot, most people carry a negative stigma after being accused of something like this once, but Ben was lucky, and the first one didn't seem to hurt him all that much, so being young and cocky he put himself in this position again, I don't get it. I've tried to remain quiet on this topic, because as a die-hard Steeler fan you want the best, and up until recently it seemed Ben was the best. Now I'm not sure, I realized I wasn't sure yesterday when Iwas shopping for my kids at Toys-R-Us, and found a $7 Roethisberger action figure I never seen before, and when I would normally go out of my way in the past to find and buy these things, this time I left it behind, because I need to be sure, before I can root for or allow my son to root for this man again. I am not going to blast him since I don't know the truth, but I will not defend him either. One thing I will say, is guilty or innocent the man needs to grow up, this is not just his life he is affecting, but his family, his team, and as corney as it sounds his fans, especially the tons of little boys (my son included) who look up to him. This is the carreer path he chose so if he wants to continue to have a successful carreer he needs to do it better than he has. I am almost 40 and I have had a lot fun in my 20s, but now I have a family and work for a prison and now that my life choices needed to change and they did, time to grow up Ben, as good as you are at your job as a football player, I it appears to me your job as a role model has been lacking.
I am done rambling and this will be the last time I comment on this stroy until it has some sort of conclusion.

Come on what are the chances that 2 times in less then a year he's accused of something like this. Whether he's innocent or not he's a donkey for putting himself in these situations. DA! Everything I've been reading about this guy is that he's a donkey, so screw him. Release him and get another QB. Great role model for the Pitt's kids to look up to.

I hate to pull the white/black card here. I'm white and I get pissed that the race card is pulled on everything and so damn quickly. But I will have to admit that if this was a black QB it would be a bigger deal. He's a big ole country grown dumb ass.

I am sick and tired of the people like the above person making everything out to be racially motivated....
Come on get over it !!!!!........The only person who is playing the race card is you.....it just proves you need to evolve as a person and stop seeing everything as a black and white issue!!!!
Once again we have to listen to simple people with simple points of view......GROW UP

Sounds like he has a drinking problem along with other issues,he is not above the law by no means considering who he is. the league has to do something to put the fear in him, suspend him for the first four games and put him on probation for two years. this could very well cost him his job.the rooneys wont tolerate this action.good bye ben, hello donovan.

Ben was very vocal about the first incident. he came straight out and said, this thing did not happen, but things are so quiet on this, that it makes the story seem suspect on both sides.

Number 11 I don't think anyone is saying it was racially motivated. The point I think you are missing or choosing to ignore is the fact that if it was lets say, Donovan McNabb accused of this same thing, the media would be all over it. Like white on rice, excuse my pun. But with Rothlisberger news is scarce and he is given the benefit of the doubt. Don't beleive me? Show me all the Ben should hang and Ben is a thug and Ben is only doing what comes naturally comments.

Preface: im a white, 40's, Browns fan. Is Ben guilty. I obviously don't know. Is he guilty of horrible judgement? Most def. For that alone there will be suspensions. If not from the league then from Rooney. I've been trying to keep my personal hatred of the Squeelers out of my opinions and all I can say is If it walks like a duck and sounds like a duck its usually a duck. Worse comes to worse he should get in trouble for buying drinks for 20 year old girls. Also I agree with people who say the coverage has a racial slant. Look at Tiger. He is crucified for JUST (sorry) cheating on his wife.
