Jim Mora withdrew his name from consideration for the Washington Redskins' vacant head coaching job Friday, according to his agent, Bob Lamonte, one day after returning from a visit with owner Daniel Snyder the Washington Post reported. Mora's withdrawal leaves current assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams as the only known candidate with head coaching experience, with a number of league sources believing Williams is the top choice.

Mora is seen as the most likely choice to replace Seattle Coach Mike Holmgren should he retire, and he has strong ties to the Seattle area. Mora said he did not want to uproot his family again.

Washington defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, Mora, Tennessee assistant Jim Schwartz and Indianapolis assistant Ron Meeks are the only verified candidates to interview.

If he'd keep his mouth shut, he'd keep a head coaching job. He's a good coach.

It would have been bad for Washington to select him even if he is a good coach. He would have wanted that Seattle job when Mike retired and we would have been looking again for a new coach. I really think Williams is the best choice since he likes coaching the Redskins the last few years and he has worked with several great head coaches in the past. The team will only improve with him and that is what you want a true veteran coach who knows how to respond to Mr. Snyder hopefully the next couple days we will learn something.

They should give it to Williams. He's happy there & knows the setup. With all the Rats scourrying & jumping ship in the league these days, with no thought of anyone but themselves, a little commitment should be rewarded by "in house" promotions.

If he withdrew his name, then that means either this year or next he will be the head coach of the Seahawks

Honestly, I think the deadskins job is by far the worst only behind the Raiders. However at least Al Davis does know talent, he is just a control freak, Synder think all hs has to do is spend money and that will get him to the bowl. The guy needs to stop being a Jerry Jones wannabe

I hate Jim Mora but it's funny how everyone thinks Greg Williams is a better HC than Mora would be:
Both were head coaches for three years:
Greg Williams: 17-31, ZERO playoff apperences
Jim Mora: 26-22, took his team to NFC title game in 04
Mora has proven more than Williams and did it with alot of overrated players, which is what the Skins currently have.

Keith L, There isnt much more available that is better than Mora!
They should go after Philly's Jim Johnson or Tampa's Monte Kiffin. Can anybody explain why these 2 are not head coaches. They definitely deserve it. The only thing I can think of is they dont want to be a head coach or they are just flat out committed to their current teams.

Mora was a good coach. Seattle needs a defensive minded coach for a change. Mora did a lot with only a big name with a bigger ego and attitude on the roster in Atlanta. They were the Michael Vick show, and he didn't do anything for the team only for Vick. Seattle likes team oriented character guys so he'll do great. I love Holmgren and he is the guy for Seattle until he retires or dies. I think Mora is the perfect replacement.

ahh no... It has ABSOLUTELY nothing do do with the Redskins
Mora has always said that he wants the U of Wash job. They are keeping Tyrone Willingham for one more year then Mora side in and make Tyrone look like a genius. (ref: Charlie Weis at ND)

What matters is whether Snyder will finally figure out that he doesn't know enough about football to be calling the shots here. He needs to find a first-rate GM and leave it to the GM to handle the rest of it. Until that happens, it will be like this year, squeaking into the last wild card spot at best, and then getting blasted by a real playoff team.
You can't go entirely by what Williams did in Buffalo. After all, Belichick was 36-44 in Cleveland.
    GO GIANTS!!!

The truth is simple...snyder laid down the law...asked him how he feels about coaching with a staff he has to keep already hired...mora said he wants his own staff and his own team...adios and good riddens from both sides
