NFL - Sports Rumors

The New York Giants may have lost a pair of veteran wide receivers, but the team believes quarterback Eli Manning(notes) will be able to make up the different with experience, the New York Post reported.

"We're going to put more of the onus on him," Giants GM Jerry Reese said.

And how did Manning respond?

"I think you got a quarterback going into his sixth year and . . . some young receivers," Manning told The Post Tuesday. "It's my job to make sure those guys are on the same page and my job to be a leader and take control of the offense and the passing game.

"As a quarterback you're always going to be a leader, but now I'm one of the older guys on the offense."

Eli will have to really step up this year with the receiving crew he has--they just don't have any big play guys. Eli is a great leader and I hope that he can get the best out of this group, but I think it will be the Eagles year in the NFC East

#6 the cowboys are not going to sweep the giants because the giants D will stop Tony Romo and make him look like the avergae QB that he really is, I agree with Ultra Man on every spot except 1st because i think that the eagles will be the better team they have a pretty good defense and a much more explosive offense but I do think theyll make the playoffs as wildcard

The average QB is Eli not Romo, #10. The Cowboys won't sweep for another reason, because they suck.

Cowboy fans that believes that they will win the division are as clueless as their reputation says. what in the h ell have they done that would make you think they are better than last year? they lost half of their team and have a r etard for a head coach.

Well number 11 if Eli is so average then Romo must suck because Eli has one a playoff game and a superbowl and lets see what Romo has done what won the divison to choke in the playoffs and who did they get beat by the playoffs Eli Mannig and the giants

Eli had lead the Giants to the playoffs every year he has been the full time starter. His game isn't always the prettiest, but he's a competitor who is at his best when the game is on the line. I'll take the other NFC east qbs for the highlight reel, give me Eli for the championships...

Eli is nothing without plax. He proved it last year. He has no recievers. Theyre gonna lean on the run and jacobs goes down in week 6 IR in week 10. 8-8 if their defense holds up.

Parklife420 -- you got it absolutely right, brother. From the '80's teams right through now, when the Giants win they win ugly and most Giants fans like it that way. Eli's a great one, whether people recognize it or not. I remember Fran Tarkenton, I remember Phil Simms, and now Eli. I love Phil, in his prime he was one of the best QB's in the NFL -- for my money just a notch below Montana (again, I mean in his prime) but I think Eli's going to wind up higher on the Giants historical chart. Look at the stats, he keeps getting better; he's just entering his prime. No-one can dismiss the miracle year as a fluke -- he consistently does things the great ones do. For the two-minute drill there's no-one, not even Peyton, I'd take over Eli today.

I worry a lot about the Eagles....they are much improved and I think Dallas is a fragile team. Dallas coaching is suspect..Romeo is fighting all the choke issues...and really the whole thing about Dallas being Americas Team is over. Dallas no longer has that super type team edge over who ever they play..they are just another team that is fighting for the play offs. As for Big Blue...improved defense and a full pre-season to adjust to losing Plax. will serve them well. Ramses Bardon...Ramses Bardon...Ramses Bardon.....did I mention Ramses Bardon? He just might make the loss of Plax a little easier to take. GO BIG BLUE !

#2 - no way they win 12 games without Plax unless another reciever has an unbelievable season
#14 - how do you "one a playoff game"? you can win one
everybody stop with the "[my teams] awesome and gonna win [your team] sucks, hahaha" - it's not a comment about the article it's a blank statement without any supportive material
Eli & Romo are both average Qb's, though on paper Romo's a decent amount better, & this year he will have Williams, who is a legit Wr, & could be a star, & witten, who is a probowl TE, Manning's proven targets are..............Hixon? Boss?
I believe the standings finish Eagles (12-4), Giants(9-7), Redskins(9-7) ,Cowboys(8-8), give or take 2 games for each team
#16 give u eli for championships? is that plural & let's be honest it was the Giants defense that won that Game & got them there in the first place, Eli should not have been MVP. He's up there with Trent Dilfer & other qb's who happen to be a part of a winning team, not lead their team to victory

Amazing, absoultely amazing. Eli goes from having a receiver make an impossible catch of a bad pass (Super Bowl)- to the supposted "best" quarterback around. You idiots have no concept of who is the best, but it ain't Eli. If I was the Giants I would be praying if all I have is Eli to lead the team. The Giants will do nothing but disappoint this coming season.

I love how everyone discounts the giants passing game and wr's. Yes lossing the G.O.AT. and plax will change thier passaing attack but it wont be as bad as everyone thinks. Now that teams wont come in to the early games thinking we dont have to double this wr and we can bring the saftey into the box to help out the run i think they will get bruned by short passes and PA deep passes. Eli has been getting better each year and now he wont have to worry about making sure he has to get the ball to plax or a shockey or some other loud mouth he can focus on what the defences are giving him. I dont see a GIANTS wr with 10+ TD's but i do see three or even four with 7-9 TD's and at the end of the year the running game will be one of the best again because teams wont be able to stack the box beacuse they wont know who to double.

After this year, the Cowbutts will fire most of their coaching staff......unfortunately for us Giants fans. I see the Cowgirls at 9-7 this year......at best. Whoever said Dallas will sweep the Giants this year needs to stock up on Kleenex.....again. Even Chris Canty jumped at the chance to play for a team that has a REAL chance of getting another ring.
Our D is scarier than I've ever seen it and Osi is back now. The O has some very serious new talent which will also improve special teams. Can't wait to see what Barden and Nicks can do.

I wouldn't be suprized if their arn't two to three 8-8 teams in that division with the Eagles and the Cowboys the only chance of a playoff run. One of the two might make 10-6.
Lets see how Ellie May Manning compairs to the great Qb's in this era when he has only average recievers to throw to.
Romo will be depending on the tight end show because Roy Williams will only show up for his plays. It's been appearent for years just watch some tape Dallas fan. They should've shipped Romo instead of T.O.
The Eagles appear to be the only team in the division who have up graded for this season.
There is another team in that division but I can't remember who they are LOL.
