NFL - Sports Rumors

“MarkAfter the third game of the season, New York Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez(notes) looked to be on top of the world. He had taken the Jets to three straight wins and was being compared to the legendary Joe Namath in the Big Apple.

Now, three weeks later, Sanchez has lost three games in a row and some New Yorkers are calling for his head (or at least for head coach Rex Ryan to bench the young man). But Ryan is apparently sticking with Sanchez, according to the New York Daily News, even though Sanchez "led" the team to a loss against the seemingly hapless Buffalo Bills.

Not helping Sanchez is the fact that he leads the league in interceptions with ten and he hasn't gotten more than 172 yards in a game since the first game of the season.

Sanchez isn't being benched but folks should apparently expect Kellen Clemens(notes) to be getting more reps in practice just in case that happens soon.

I'm a die hard Jets fan and I felt things may come to this. Sanchez is only 22. He has never played in cold weather. Injuries in his supporting cast hasn't helped. He has had 2 terrible games out of 6 and there should be no surprises. PLEASE DO NOT BRING IN CLEMENS. Let's hang in with Sanchez, as he is our future. Clemens lack of mobility (a very sad reminder of the Ken O'Brien years) is not going to make things better as long as the quarterback continues to be somewhat pressured. We the fans need to suck it up, stay with Mark, and hope for the best this year.

they have what it takes to contend. why are they throwing a rookie to the wolves? jeff garcia is available. sign him and start him. even joey harrington would be an upgrade right now.

they are wasting one year starting sanchez and next year the same cast of players might not be here anymore (or their play decline because they'll be one year older). can't they follow the aaron rodgers' model of player development? bench sanchez and sign garcia.

Sanchez is the Future! It would be the worst thing for the Jets to bench this kid. Peyton won 2 games his rookie year. Let him finish the season and let him deal with all the pressure. This kid has talent.

With five picks, even the Bills should be embarrassed about needing OT to win.

There's no reason to bring in Clemens. He doesn't give us a better chance to win the football game, and will only hurt the kids development. Let him go through his growing pains.

I am a Die hard Jets fan and Sanchez needs to realize that Edwards or the opposing team is not his only target.
As far as benching him I think they should because I think clemens is a much better Qb with alot more experience with looking at the defense and calling audibles. I few posts before mine a few people are saying Garcia is available, why would we get in the same situation we were in with testeverde. If they are going to get someone it should be VICK .

The Greenies are a good team. Is it worth risking the play-offs getting Sanchez up to speed as a pro? they should have made the playoffs last yeat, till Brent's arm went south. Need to step up this year, at least as a wild card team. Bring in Garcia.. he is used to taking over in these situations as a stop gap "gun" for hire.

Keep him in and see if he will develop. Maybe he will be the long term answer, maybe not, but apparently it is known that Clemens is not the long term answer. Looks like the Jets are back, baby! And once again the Jets season is over before the Yankees season is over.

Folks please remember the Ken O'Brien lesson. Immobile QBs don't take you to championships. Clemens is not the answer. Sanchez has been moderately pressured - Clemens won't be any better - I even bet he will be worse. Then next year Sanchez would need OJT. The is no better way to learn how to deal with 'reads' than to do it with real opponents. We all new that when Sanchez was drafted - the first three weeks clouded our opinions. Let's not delay the inevitable: Sanchez needs real OJT. He wasn't going toget it yesterday having to throw to Clowney and the others - and Buffalo knew that, hence the lack of opportunity to throw to Braylon Edwards. We gotta hang in there with Sanchez. If we trade for another QB or sign an FA then we might as well have cut Clemens before the season. He will be totally useless with no self respect. At least with Sanchez as QB Clemens role is clear and one he accepted.

With 2 receiver injury's this past Sunday, Sanchez had problems. Brad Smith and Cotchery were missed. Keller is terrible and Clowney is a clown.

If you want to sign somebody sign another receiver, so the other team is not focused on Edwards and it will also give us another target when Cotchery gets healthy, Smith is average at best ! Give the Kid a chance he is going to get better !

Keep Sanchez in a little longer. We are still in the hunt. Defense can step up a bit and shut down the run. Line looked like swiss cheese against the Fins. Still think our problem is with Shottlenheimer's play calling. He did call a good running game against the Bills but needs better / shorter pass plays for Sanchez to complete esp. in a strong wind. Agree to pass on Garcia as that will get us no where in the long term.

Smart thing would have been to bring in an experieicned QB like Garcia for a year and let Sanchez learn the game from the sidelines. I know the JETS spent a bunch of money with their"win now" approach. But its a lot to ask for a 22year old with as little experience as Mark has to lead a Pro team. Let the kid learn - he has the ability and right attitude but lacks experience - and that is critical in all most any job if you wnat to be top dog.

It's not Sanchez, it's Ryan and Snottyheimner trying to prove they have a passing game. The jets are THIRD in the league in rushing yards per game averaging 167/game, they reeled off 210 and 99 yards from Jones and Washington, and lost because they thought they wanted to display how good Sanchez is, and he's not that great in decision making, and had happy feet. When they get 5 yards on first down, they immediately call a pass. If Sanchez went 8 of 10 with 99 yards and no pix or TD's, this team wins. STUPID. These have to be the two most STUPID coaches ever created. With that O line, they should always think RUN RUN RUN...or run those two fools out of town.

Right on #19. lets win today, at the expense of tomorrow, and always have an 'experimenting' mentality. Dumb. They should call the Jets version of that new stadium The Petrie Dish.

The J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets were not legitimate Super Bowl contenders this year regardless who was at QB. They simply weren't. They do have some very nice pieces though.
I would keep starting Sanchez if you lose you get better picks to help the roster and improve the theam. If you win, he gets to develop more on the field in a winning atmosphere and playing in big games.
Clemens isn't the answer, if he was he would've been playing a year or more ago and signing Jeff Garcia wouldn't pay any dividends for 3-4 weeks at minimum because he doesn't know the system.
