Detroit Lions quarterback Shaun Hill(notes) broke his right index finger during the team's 45-24 drubbing by the New England Patriots on Sunday. It seems silly to rush him back when the team is sitting so close to the bottom of the NFC with a 2-9 record.

Hill couldn't practice on Tuesday and backup Drew Stanton(notes) took most of the snaps with the first team, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The paper claims that the Lions are thinking about just asking Hill not to bother suiting up again for the final five games of the season. The finger doesn't need surgery, but Hill and the Lions might as well just start getting ready for next year at this point.
