NFL - Sports Rumors

“RushConservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh is saying that St. Louis Blues chairman Dave Checketts gave him some bad information earlier this year when Checketts asked Limbaugh to be part of his bidding group for the St. Louis Rams, according to the New York Daily News.

Limbaugh claims that he told Checketts that his involvement was bound to be controversial within the league's offices and that the reply from Checketts was as follows: "We wouldn't have approached you if we hadn't taken care of that."

Meanwhile, the NFL is saying it never, ever pre-approves owners and didn't do any such thing for Limbaugh. "At all times we have been clear with prospective purchasers of the Rams or any other club that approval of an owner could only be granted by a vote of the 32 clubs after complete financial and personal due diligence, which obviously has not taken place here," said an NFL spokesman.

Limbaugh also pointed his pudgy fingers in the direction of the NFL Players Association for butting into the proceedings and urging its members to speak out against Limbaugh being part of an ownership group. He is claiming that this was solely because the union is attempting to assert power over owners as they prepare for an upcoming collective-bargaining battle.

Of course Checketts asking Limbaugh to leave the bidding group has absolutely nothing to do with any number of highly charged things Limbaugh has said over the years. Why wouldn't the league that likes to protect its image want someone with a huge listening audience who could say inflammatory things of all sorts to be an owner, right?

I mean seriously, he would have been a minority partner and had no involvement in operating the team... Who the hell really cares what people are in those positions?
All the players and members of the media who cried "racist!" in the past week should be ashamed.

As per cunextuesday's comment above - Jesse Jackson DOES own a "team" (well, his son does) - only he didn't buy it. He did his patented shake down on Budweiser and got them to give his son a very lucrative distributorship in the Chicago area. Jackson had a beef with Bud's record of minority hiring - and he even went so far as to encourgage African Americans to stop drinking the beer, as it was harmful to their health, only to change his tune on that once sonny-boy got the gig. I'm not sure how many "white players" have refused to work for Shuck-n-Jivin' Jesse's son - but I'd imagine a number of them have no real choice. I don't care for Limbaugh, but at least he would have PAID for his opportunity instead of race-baiting the owners and EXTORTING it from them.

Rush should ask Al if he can buy a minority share. It would be a beautiful fit. Love to see it happen. At least Rush could kick ass and take names.
First thing he would do is get rid of the QB and the coach immediately. Alcan just relax in his wheelchair.

The fact is that if he had become an owner, he would have had to be careful about the things he says. And I doubt he would have been okay with that. Limbaugh lives to shock people with his words, and I doubt he could have stopped because some of his words may be inappropriate coming from an NFL co-owner. For instance, the comments he made in the past about McNabb, while okay coming from a radio talk show host, are not okay coming from a representative of the NFL. That is not the publicity that the NFL needs. I think Limbaugh will do better as a radio talk show host not being limited by the NFL's rules.

To clarify, "okay" was a poor word to use when referring to his comments on McNabb. "Unsurprising" would better describe it.

Yep positive energy like your boy nobama...talkin bout someone who isnt liked by anyone wif a brain. CND you and the kool aid drinkers would be funny if you werent so sad and actually had a clue to what you be rappin bout.Pimp hand is way strong ? Switch hands ebery once in a while or you be gettin callouses and not the from work kind. What Limbaugh tried to do was show his appreciation of the game and the players by giving back to an organization with financial support. Hes from Missouri and loves football. You got duped by all the anti Limbaugh crap that has neither proof nor merit but it doesnt matter cause in the new america all that matters is how loud you yell and cry racist.

the bias in the sports commentators is shown by mr miller saying mr limbaughs pudgy fingers, a clear derogatory statement, very childish and really very ignorant in that someone with a wit of intelligence will see that; but we can see he is speaking to the ignorant ones such as CND who are swayed by simpleton statements and have no mind of their own to research things and form an intelligent decision. mr miller, you should really try to elevate your argument to influence people with a simple education,, thank you for the time

Two points......I do not understand why anyone is painting this as smearing el rushbo. I have known for years listening to his show that he is racist and I am not a rocket scientist.
Lastly, el rushbo will never sue because there is that little detail called a deposition that he will have to endure where he will need all of his brain from behind his back and he still will not survive the probing questions and revelations that will surface. Folks this is NOT the first time that he has been called out on his racism and he did nothing. As smart thinking people, ask yourselves why. Also remember that there will be a long list of eager people lining up to voluntarily spout the racism incidents authored by the maha. He cannot and will not take the chance expose himself and to bend over at least not in the courts maybe the DR after ingesting the drug of choice of course.
Let us be real and honest here this is only a firestorm because of al of the fires that Rush himself has previously lit. And now he wants to claim victim status?? Please not all Americans are as stupid, racist and bigots as dittoheads

You cannot compare Rush Limbaugh to Jesse Jackson. Jesse Jackson is a politician and Rush Limbaugh is an inflammatory radio host who embroils himself in controversy. This was a good PR move for the NFL. If any of the other inflammatory radio host aka. entertainers were in the same position they should do the same thing. Especially the controversial right wingers who love to shovel out hate speech. These ignorant right wing, redneck, squeal like a pig" conservative so-called Christian Bigots are not proponents of free speech, but proponents of propoganda.

Have you seen the people that listen to Limbaugh? It's the most angry bunch of rednecks I have ever seen. I guess if you listen to fear mongering long enough you start to mimic it. The sad part is these morons are making Rush rich. If it wasn't for them, Rush would have to get his fat ass off of his chair and earn a real living.

Political flamewar on a yahoo! NFL blog?
This is why the owners would never EVER let Rush be a part owner. It has zero to do with politics and everything to do with the bottom line. The last thing the NFL wants is this type of publicity...
It's pretty much the only thing Rush brings to the table (besides Oxycontin galore, of course)
