“MichaelFormer San Francisco 49ers holdout Michael Crabtree(notes) is finally playing ball but an investigation into a possible tampering charge against the New York Jets is still underway, according to ProFootballTalk. Some folks seemed to think the allegations would disappear when Crabtree finally signed but the league is reportedly pushing ahead with it.

It is unclear who has actually been interviewed about it and it also isn't clear if Crabtree and his agent, Eugene Parker, will even talk. They apparently have the right to refuse interview requests.

The 49ers filed the tampering charges back in late September when they were still negotiating with Crabtree. The belief is apparently that the Jets contacted Parker to fill him on their hope to trade for Crabtree or draft him next season if a deal couldn't be agreed upon.

Of course, now Crabtree is a 49er and he started his career off last Sunday with five catches for 56 yards.

So let me get this right, Crabtree holds out for more money, tampering charges get filed against the Jets, Crabtree signs with the Niners, and the next day the Jets get Braylon Edwards. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, then maybe....maybe my Niners will be looking at the Jets 1st round pick in 2010!!!

49ERS Should get Jet first Round pick. This kind of stuff the JETS did is bad for the league. NFL is the the greatest league in all sports and it needs to make a example out of the JETS so this kind of stuff doesn't happen in the future.

Tampering goes on all the time and is impossible to prove, Jets didn't do anything every other team hasn't done. Niners fans your not getting anything, let alone a first round pick, hilarious, its not like they were illegally spying on you like the Pats.

Say what you want about the 9ers not gettting a draft pick. It may not be a 1st round pick, but in the end the Jets will have to give up a 4th or 5th rounder

I think the Jets will have to give up a 3rd-5th round pick as well. Like the previous poster said, It is too coincidental that the day Crabtree signs, the Jets trade for Braylon Edwards. The 49ers, under any circumstances, will not end up with a 1st round pick.

Considering the niners gave up a 4th / 5th rounder re the Briggs tampering charge, i am guessing the Crabtree incident will garner a higher pick - 2nd or 3rd rounder since he was a draft pick which is a lot more serious than a contracted player.. the NFL draft system is far too important an institution to allow teams to tamper with each other's picks...

#5 Mike G., I totally agree with you. Heck even Ray Charles could see that the Jets tried pulling a fast one and he's blind.
I don't expect to see a first round pick but a third or fourth would not surprise me

wow the Edwards trade wouldn't have anything to do witht he fast approaching trade deadline and Cotchery getting hurt the day before would it?? The niners have had how many early picks the last 10 years and it does them no good.....

how short of memory we have people. This type of stuff happens all the time. and If you remember it happened to us the other year with the bears. First round pick? probably not. more like a third rounder. like what ws taken from us. But you never know. It may be a stiffer penalty since this was a draft pick, and the Niners went out of there way to uphold the integrity of the NFL pay scale for rookies. Maybe the will get rewarded for having a backbone. we will see.

The niners haven't had a lot of success picking in the first rounds, but so haven't a lot of other teams. A lot of the players who are drafted don't make the cut a couple years down the road, that's why they draft 252 guys every year!

Tampering with draft picks is serious. The draft us BIG with the NFL - You don't mess with that.
If found guilty then the Jets need to pay a high price - a first rounder or a couple of other picks.
Of course it is NY so the league may play favorites.

You guys need to understand the rules here. If the Jets are found guilty of tampering, their is nothing in the rules that says they will be handing over a draft pick to the 49ers. They may lose a draft pick, but it won't go to the 49ers. And S.F. fans should know, that when you tamper, you lose a draft pick, but when we tampered with Lance Briggs, the Bears didn't get any thing in compensation directly from the 49ers.
Those are the rules. It should be a bigger penalty, and the team that was tampered against should definitely receive compensation, because this is going to keep happening until teams start receiving tough penalties.

The Jets gave up their 3rd and 5th round already for Braylon Edwards and their 1st rounder for Mark (Sancheese) in the last draft in order to move up to get him .I think since the Jets did'nt learn from New England's or the Niner's mistake, they should loose their remanding draft picks for being such cheaters, everyone including their dogs (Cleveland Browns Mangeni) knows it to be true. Have disliked the crybaby Jets since they fired USC coach Pete Carroll. The Dolphins will put them back in their place again Sunday.

Re #17 - The Bears and 9ers swapped picks in the 3rd round (to give the Bears a better pick). So your argument is factually inaccurate.

There is no way the Jets tampered with Crabtree- Making promises to a guy who hasnt played a down in the NFL and is already disgruntled??If this is true, then they deserve to lose there entire draft not for tampering,But for stupidity. No way this happened.

As a 49er fan I hope the NFL holds that the claim is correct and punishes the NYJ appropriately. A first rounder might be too high but then again the new NFL Commissioner is as strict as they come and I would love it if he decides to make the Jets an example and show the other teams in the league that tampering will not be tolerated.
Personally as an observer since the whole Parcells, Bellicheck, Mangini, then the whole spygate thing occurred its about time that the Jets pay for some of the dirt they've thrown onto the league. Enough of this manipulation!!

For example didn't the Broncos claim tampering by the Jets with Marshall (charges that would have actually made far more sense, then them tampering with Crabtree) and those were proven false. Tampering is BS, every team claims it in a holdout, because the media spreads gossip to fuel the agent, but its never proven, Jets did nothing wrong here.
