NFL - Sports Rumors

Dallas Cowboys outside linebacker Greg Ellis will not participate in the last day of organized team activities today because he's upset with his repetitions being reduced in practice, sources said. Ellis missed the first two days of OTAs this week and doesn't plan on coming back to practice at Valley Ranch unless he gets more repetitions.

Last week, the Cowboys told Ellis some of his practice time would be reduced to give 2007 first-round pick Anthony Spencer more time on the field. The Cowboys like Spencer's speed and intelligence, and coach Wade Phillips praised his performance in practice Wednesday. But Phillips said Ellis remains the starter. According to the sources, the Cowboys have told Ellis they don't want to wear down his 32-year-old body in May. But a source said Ellis doesn't trust the team's motives.

Ellis was unavailable, and his agent, James Williams, declined to comment. Team owner and general manager Jerry Jones downplayed Ellis' absence, saying the OTAs are voluntary. This is not the first time Ellis has voiced displeasure.

don't be that quick to say Ellis is washed up cause he isn't. He did just come off a bad injury and do very well in the games he played in last season. I think Ellis has a few more seasons in him. But, Spencer will be a good back up until Ellis is truly washed up.

Ellis has turned into a whiner. This guy would want the dollar back if he won the lotto. Spencer will take his job this year and Ellis will turn it into something personal.

Ellis needs to face the facts..........He's no Ray Lewis............so move out of the way and let Anthony Spencer shine!

I agree Ellis still has some fuel in the tank, but I'm about tired of his crybaby attitude. You are being paid millions of dollars to play, and you're not happy about practice reps? Last season he was crying about a lack of insurance if he blew his achiles again and drafting Spencer, before that it was converting over to the 3-4. Stop cryin' and play ball! You have an opportunity to be a part of team the WILL win multiple Super Bowls over the next 5 years!

Ellis is still the man!!!!! Way better shape then Reggie White and younger. He has alot left in the tank. I would only let Spencer take over if Ellis gets hurt one more time this year for more then two games. The pass rush has never been the problem anyway it's the health of the DB's.

I understand where he is coming from. He has been a staple of the Cowboys organization for years. He is getting older and he sees people trying to take his job. He is not ready to be done. I would not like the idea of someone coming into my plant and edging me out of my office. He is simply trying to use whatever leverage he has left to get as much playing time as possible. It is easy to say that he should stop "whining" and be a leader, but helping his younger competition get better will ensure that he is gone. I don't fault him for feeling this way, but his image will definitely be tarnished by being vocal with these feelings. So I imagine, just like JBK, he will continue to fight, even though time and the facts are against him. I don't fault either one of them for it though, it is just human nature to fight to the death for what you believe in... even if you are wrong.

It's great to see that a player wants to practice as much as possible even if they are voluntary. Greg Ellis is trying to show veteran leadership.

    Level 3 Loser - 50-100 words
    Level 2 Loser - 25-50 words
