Eric Mangini gave the Jets an unexpected day off from training camp Monday, sending conspiracy theorists into a frenzy: Did he clear his schedule for a clandestine meeting with Brett Favre? Not according to the Jets.
The reason for the day off, a team spokesman said, was based on giving the players a mental and physical break from the rigors of camp. Camp is only five days old (six practices), but Mangini is applying what he learned during off-season research on physical training and recovery, the spokesman said.
From all indications, the Jets remain interested in Favre, but the interest appears limited and a trade seems unlikely. They've talked to the Packers and Favre's agent, but they reportedly haven't talked directly to Favre.
