“BraylonNew York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards(notes) may have assaulted a friend of LeBron James outside a Cleveland nightclub, but it doesn't appear the league will give him any kind of suspension for it.

He was charged with the misdemeanor on Monday. The fact that he has no prior history is helping Edwards stay clear of any league suspension, a source told the New York Post. The Jets apparently knew about the allegations before the team traded for him with the Cleveland Browns. The Jets reportedly did a background check and talked to both law-enforcement folks and league security about Edwards before making the deal.

Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum told the paper that the "risk was manageable" when acquiring Edwards. You can imagine the "unmanageable risk" discussions in Jets boardrooms when folks like Terrell Owens(notes) and Placido Burress were on the market.

If it was only 1 typo we could understand, but 2 in the same name is pretty bad.

He SHOULD be suspended. End of story. Unless the guy he assaulted hit him first or struck a woman there is no excuse for this.
He should be suspended for one game and then an additional game if he is convicted of any crime.

'The fact that he has no prior history is helping Edwards stay clear of any league suspension" Oh really?? This year alone, he was busted for doing 100 mph in his Bentley and was also with Stalworth in Miami drinking the night Stalworth killed that guy! This thug obviously has a drinking problem to go along with his ego problem and 'hood-rat' mentality. Top it all off with too much money and you've got a ticking time bomb! So much for the NFL taking a hard line on players actions off the field!! Stay tuned folks, this guy's story is far from over....believe it!!

If this hadn't been a friend of King James, would Braylon Edwards have even been charged? Or for that matter who Braylon Edwards have even ben traded to the Jets?

Guardian54, you bring up the fact that he was speeding, Wow big deal. He didnt, shoot himself, didnt kill anyone, didnt kill any animals. didnt do anything to warrant you calling him a ticking time bomb. And so what that he was with Stallworth the night Stallworth killed someone one. See the key word in that sentence is STALLWORTH. You should take your head out of your arse and come down from your every tower you yuppy fux before you judge anyone and label them hood rats.

lebron james would put braylon edwards to sleep. idc if u crying during basketball but when your 6'8 260 pounds of solid muscle you have to pack a little power behind a punch and i bet lebron has an iron jaw, look at it. AND ATLEAST lebron actually is good in his sports, oh wait debatably the best, while braylon edwards cant catch a football and his job is to do so.

The "risk was manageable". Is that like being a little bit pregnant? Or almost sane? Since these thugs and miscreants have taken over the NFL I have lost all interest in what used to be a great game.

Guardian54- You label him with a drinkin problem because his buddy killed someone ?? That's pretty messed up. I like this scenario... Here comes Edwards out of a bar......... a group of rich people that were also drinking are there too. Words get exchanged. Gardian54 steps out and says... "Hey Thug, you're nothing but a egotistical hood rat, and a drunk on top of it. Edwards punches you in the jaw. The league finds out and says..... why should we suspend him? I'd have done the same thing!!!! Then your friend, the King ( who doesn't even help you out except to make a statement regarding his own disappointment) says, oh he's just jealous. Sad to say, but a punch in the kisser is sometimes well deserved. Nothing personal G54, just makin a point.

I don't know why this is such a big deal. Even if he did punch "LEBRON's FRIEND", So what? There are fights all the time in the club, outside of the club. Just because its a football player and some dude that ran to his daddy Lebumb to talk for him doesn't mean I care. Maybe he deserved to get punched in the face. Some people actually deserve that sometimes to bring them off their high horse.

I like how the guy he "assaulted" is referred to as a friend of LeBron James in every article about it, he cannot even get his own name mentioned
