Bill Parcells spent part of Monday afternoon meeting with Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga, outlining the team's strengths and weaknesses and detailing his plan for the coming free agency period that could help Miami improve from a team that makes the playoffs to one that wins during the playoffs.
Huizenga listened to the plan and then approved everything Miami's football czar wants to do. Huizenga basically told Parcells to go get things done. So this Dolphins offseason is in the capable hands of Parcells now. But will that be the case next week?
Huizenga's sale of his majority interest in the Dolphins is tentatively scheduled for sometime next week. Stephen Ross, the buyer and Dolphins' owner-in-waiting, will take over from Huizenga once the sale closes. No one is certain whether Ross and Parcells have an ironclad agreement to keep Parcells working for the Dolphins, according to the Miami Herald. Huizenga says Parcells told him he's staying once Ross takes over. Insiders within the Miami organization say Parcells is happy working in Miami and dismissing the notion he would leave such a good situation for what would be browner pastures.
Hours before Ross said he wants Parcells to stay with the Dolphins, he entertained former Kansas City Chiefs president and general manager Carl Peterson during the Miami playoff game against Baltimore.
Ross and Peterson go back a quarter century to a time Ross owned the USFL's Philadelphia Stars. Peterson was his general manager.
So amid speculation Peterson could be joining the Dolphins once Ross takes over, and added to the possibility Parcells can leave if he wants once Ross takes over, Peterson was on the Dolphins sideline wearing, of all things, a Dolphins pin on his lapel.
And he was overheard talking about the Dolphins in terms of ''We'' — a 20-year man with the Kansas City Chiefs acting as if the Dolphins are his new favorite team.

anyone who hires herm edwards as a head coach should be stripped of their gm title. anyone who trades a 4th round draft pick to hire herm as a head coach deserves a kick to the nuts before losing their gm title.

Parcells will go what, 2 more years? Then Peterson takes over...
Parcells won't opt out UNLESS he gets the vibe that the new owner wants to push him out. Then the whole team falls apart.
