Quarterback Tyler Palko(notes) is 28 years old and has appeared in four NFL games in the past two seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs, going 9 for 13 without a touchdown or interception. He's also carried the ball three times for 13 yards in that time.

He's about to get plenty more opportunities to show what he can do.

The Denver Post reports that Chiefs starting quarterback Matt Cassel(notes) could be lost for the season with an injury to his throwing hand. Chiefs coach Todd Haley said Monday that it is a possibility that Cassel is done for the year.

"He will probably have to have surgery at some time," Haley said, according to the Post. "The length of it, we're not sure, but there's some optimism."

Cassel has thrown for 1,713 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Chiefs, who are in a three-way tie for second (and last) place in the AFC West with the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers.
