Houston Texans quarterback Sage Rosenfels understands the reality of the situation. He is a seven-year NFL veteran who just turned 30. He is still waiting to become an NFL starter. He is still waiting for an opportunity to compete for a starting job according to the Houston Chronicle.

There were indications this offseason that his wait might have ended. Minnesota offered the Texans a third-round draft pick for Rosenfels. But the Texans wanted at least a second-round pick. After all, Rosenfels was instrumental in salvaging a season in which the Texans were ravaged with injuries. He appeared in nine games for the injured Matt Schaub and won four of his five starts.

"It's been an interesting offseason," said Rosenfels, who was participating in the team's offseason conditioning program at Reliant Park on Thursday. "As a quarterback, you'd like to have a chance to make a team your own. And this is Matt's team. And I understand that. There's obviously some frustration there.''

The Texans should have given Rosenfel's (a proven QB) the starting job instead of spending the money to bring in another backup quarterback; those funds could have gone to strengthening the offensive line and/or the corners, helping make the team more solid!
The Texans must think a lot of Rosenfel's if they want minimum #2 pick for him!

I wouldn't let him go for a 3d-rounder either. He might end up being the Texans' starter yet.
But -- he couldn't break into the starting lineup with Miami, couldn't beat out Brian Griese. Who are we kidding here?

There is a reason why he is a seven year backup. Could it be that he is not a quality starter.

Minnesota is SO smart. They save a second round pick and get to continue being mediocre at QB. Sage may or may not be good but anyone who watches the Vikings KNOW TJackson is over matched in the NFL. He should be a special teams guy at best. The vikings won a few games with him but it was all about the defense and running game.

Hey Zigy, JUST DO IT!!! a 2nd rd. pick is well worth it!! who else were you planning on getting in the 2nd rd.?Rosenthal at least has NFL experience!!! You picked up WR's, have a GREAT running game, make the trade, and pickup a DE in the draft OR trade the 1st rd. pick for a quality DE now but, DO SOMETHING!!! t. jackson will never be the answer, nor will bollinger. trade t-jackson to anyone looking for a backup qb. get S. rosenthal while you can!!!

He's one flaw away from being a GREAT. He always waits too long before releasing the ball, and the receivers have to adjust after the play has already developed. Other than that, he is an excellent player.

GIVE Jackson away, trade for Rosenfels, Bollinger backs him up and if you want Ferotte as a tutor, why not. What everyone knows (except maybe the Vikings front office) is that Jackson is not a good QB.

A 2nd rounder is fair for Sage / or probably a 3rd & 5th rounder. He knows the WC offense and would be a very big help to whichever team would give him a shot at being the fulltime starting QB.

They can't trade Schaub because it would cost way to much money and it would be really dumb. Get what ever they can for Sage he's not a legit starting QB reason why the Dolphins and Redskins let him walk.

Judging Sage from his time in Washington and Miami with sub-par offensive lines and weak receivers is a bad idea. Any QB is as good as his line. Peyton took his lumps as a rookie, but as the Colts developed that line (which is vastly underrated) no one touched him and he was able to work the field. Of course, it doesn't hurt to have a center as good as Saturday. Anyway, Sage proved what he could do in Houston, and their line was rebuilt and still not one of the better ones in the league. Minnesota's top brass needs to get their head of their sphincters and give up that 2nd round pick. It's a steal, if you ask me. Jackson is worthless. He'll never be a top level QB. Frerotte is too old. Bollinger is ok, but nowhere near as good as Rosenfels. Minnesota's biggest problem is Childress. He's just not a good head coach.
