The Carolina Panthers have lost the first three games of the season and the feeling in Carolina seems to be that head coach John Fox will be history at season's end unless things turn around really quickly.
That turnaround isn't expected to happen and a Fox firing would certainly satisfy a large group of fans that have been asking for such a thing since the Panthers were ousted by the Arizona Cardinals 33-13 in the playoffs last year. He's been with the team since 2002 and there doesn't seem to be a way for Fox to repeat his 2003 performance when he led the Panthers to the Super Bowl.
So the word is that Fox could be canned after the season and the team isn't likely to re-sign expensive defensive end Julius Peppers(notes), either, according to the Charlotte Observer, if things continue the way they have been.
Things are going to look a lot different for Carolina in 2010.

fox made panthers into an annual contender. he built them from the ground up. he placed his trust in jake delhomme, built a strong defense, withstood obstacles such as injuries to delhomme and several other key contributors, successfully replaced the production of franchise running back stephen davis, and made the panthers a well-rounded team. sure there were down years, but that was mostly due to injuries (remember delhomme was out for season 1 year, stephen davis was injured the year after super bowl, kris jenkins, mike minter, mike rucker, ricky manning jr.) hell, they had to start nick goings at running back.
it would be a mistake to let him go.

I think with the way delhomme is playing either bench him or get rid of him. hes 30 something years old he had his time in the spot light because of steve smith. You dont sit there and say that with steve smith getting 200+ yards againts the bears in the super bowl season was because of Jake. If we had a QB who was limited to his mistakes and not easily rattled I think we could do very well. If the running game isnt there Jake isnt a guy who can rely on to win a game. With that said Better QB better record. The defense is great expect the corners and safties. Everyhting else besides those three things are awesome when able to work. WE just need the cash to get players on the team.

try and remember that we have no 1st round pick next year unless we trade up into one somehow. right now Everette Brown looks like a top 10 if not top 5 pick in next years draft. Hindsite is 20 - 20 but drafting J Stewart 13 was a excellent choice but passing on Flacco will haunt us for years to come. To move up into 1st round will cost us Deangelo or Stewart I suspect, Peppers isn't increasing his value around the league at all.

Now that I think of it if everyone is so against Fox, how do you think the Browns fans feel. Eric (the ass) Mangini should be available pretty soon....

Sadly, I agree with your main point in your first post (#2). I am born/raised/living in NC, and this is not an environment for pro sports. NC is a college sports state. Nothing wrong with that, but a lot of people here have a very take it or leave it attitude towards pro teams. I'm very happy that we have the NFL here, and will back this team as long as we have it, but most of the people you see wearing the jerseys on weekends aren't doing it for their love of the team. And I also think you have a point about the players taking on the attitudes of the fans. It's like they just assume their jobs are safe and aren't really trying as hard as they could. You don't have to look beyond the Dallas game to see that. There were 11 men on that field in the second half that I would guess had never seen a draw play before, nor tried to tackle a moving object. It was pitiful. That wasn't the same #90 that we've enjoyed the last few years, and he should have had his wish granted. Now hopefully the front office will grant the wishes of a lot of fans and give Jeff Garcia a call. He's not the final answer, but our current 2nd and 3rd rate - oops, I mean string - QBs aren't going to plug this gaping wound we currently have at the QB position. They need experience back there, not just the next guy in line.

I'm going to point out how little you pay attention. The fact that Carolina fans are upset is not because they are necessarily fair weathered, but they realize that they have a good team that is being run into the ground. For example, Carolina rushed 16 times on Monday. That doesn't make sense because the Panthers are a run team. Jake Delhomme is helping the Panthers lead the league in turnovers thanks to his 7 interceptions so far. He is also leading the league in picks (if I'm not mistaken). What makes all of this worse is that John Fox does not think anything is wrong and will claim Jake just had a bad game. Panther's fans are mad because we know we have a great team, but a terrible QB and a head coach that is letting it happen. So, excuse me (anyone else) for complaining about it. If you really want to complain about fair weather fans... go to Philly. McNabb will take the Eagles to playoffs consistently, and the fans will still want his head after one bad game.
