Gruden returning to coaching in 2010?

“JonThere's a rumor going around that former Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden will be leaving the Monday Night Football booth at the end of this season and returning to the sidelines of one football team or another, according to ProFootballTalk.

One rumor has him going to coach Notre Dame, but not too many seem to think Gruden has the patience to work with college students, according to PFT.

Gruden has apparently been very upbeat this year on the air and not saying anything negative, which has some also believing that he'd like to get back into coaching and wants to protect himself from stepping on any toes of any organization he might work with.

Jon needs to come back to Oakland, well Oakland needs Chucky, but we know ol' Al will never give in and admit he was wrong for trading him

Of course he wants to coach again, and will jump at the first acceptable opportunity. He's a pro coach, not a college coach. He likes the older vets. He curses way too much for ND anyway. Hmm, let's see - Redskins?

He cant win a champioship unless someone else puts the pieces there for him ,then he comes in wins and he or the media I should say claim he did it. He himself HAS NEVER put a team together with players he picked or drafted and won . I hope he does go back to coaching ,hes a moron on TV.

Bring him to Cleveland and let Holmgren be the GM. They have worked together before, earlier in their careers.

bring back dennis miller, at least he called it like he saw it. gruden can't suck up enough to whomever is on the TV at the time. Mostly I mute the game because its too much to bear. gruden, lets hear more from Jaws, atleast he isn't using his time in the booth as a season-long job interview.

Gruden fits well with Dallas at this point. It is similar to Tampa's story when Tony Dungy was gone from Tampa. They have a good defense, Gruden will like Romo for his mobility.

I agree with #4. I think if the Pack gets Gruden to fire that D up along with another year of experience for Rodgers and a coach who knows how to actually develop a qb and make in game adjustments, the Pack will be back.

What ?? Moron ?? Bring back Dennis miller ?? Do you people sprinkle crack on your wheaties ?? Gruden is a stud ; always has been , always will be. Dennis miller is the worst idea for Monday night football EVER!!! People don't want to come home from a hard day , and listen to a guy using 10 letter words . Especially when it's associated with football !! What were they thinking ??? We would rather here the "boom !!, Pow!! " That Madden brought to the game. Gruden and Oakland were the perfect match ....too bad Al is an Idiot .

LOL. you guys kill me. I actually never liked him as a coach. I think he is awesome as an announcer. Not sure what you guys dont like about him. Anyone care to explain it? I have not like a group of mnf announcers in a long time. Since Dennis Miller( he sucked). I actually like Gruden much to my surprise. On the coaching end of this. I agree 100% with most of you. He can't put a team together himself and I think he treats the players like trash. College football is way to emo for a guy like this. I come from La Porte, I.N. and have been to N.D. campus. I was a little wild at that time and everybody on the campus looked at me like scum and clearly avoided me( for good reason). I can just picture him walking through that awesome campus and having everybody " walk on the other sidewalk". LOL. Yeah not for college

there aren't to many coaches out there I'd take over gruden he's a smart passionate coach he loves the game and dosen't take crap from anybody players respect him because they have to. I think it would ba a cold day in hell before grude goes back to oakland. I wish he could take B*tch rodrigez job at michigan but they are right him coaching college would be to much for him

I didn't expect much when MNF announced Gruden was taking over. But he is a breath of fresh air. I actually enjoy Gruden in the booth. Mike Trico is another story. Anybody would be better than Mike. Come to think about it, I don't like him calling basketball either. Ditto for baseball. He shold have remained a Sports Center anchor.
Since I like John Gruden in the booth, I'm sure he will return to being a head coach this year or next.

I agree with #14. Please get him out of the announcing booth. I thought he was ok at first, but he now reminds me of Joe Theisman with the non stop running of the mouth.

Best fit, DALLAS. He's already got all the pieces in place. Dallas just needs someone to get on their ass when they mess up. Gruden is the guy to do it. Gruden in Dallas 2010

#5...are you serious? he put together the Oakland that went to the superbowl against his bucs....so he has put together a team and he did it with rich gannon at qb.....so know your facts before jumping in....and in my opinion the difference in the game was the play calling not the players....
