The Giants had the Canyon of Heroes parade, the visit to the White House and a big party last week at Tiffany's to distribute their Super Bowl rings, a five-month celebration of one of the most unlikely championships in NFL history. Now they get the predictable and distasteful by-products of success: Distractions, dissension, controversy and me-first replacing team-first. One month before camp and they are a team in turmoil. The stars of this show are Jeremy Shockey and Plaxico Burress.
Here's our solution: Trade Shockey. Pay Plaxico wrote Gary Myers of the New York Daily News.
Burress protested his unhappiness over how negotiations are going on a contract extension by skipping yesterday's two minicamp practices. Burress says he won't practice today or tomorrow, either. He made no promises about being in training camp July 24. Who knows what's bugging Shockey? Among other things, his pride was damaged when the Giants went on their Super Bowl run without him after he broke his leg in the 14th game. There's plenty of speculation that he wants out. Until yesterday, his only contact with Tom Coughlin was exchanging text messages. They apparently are on each other's Fave Fives. Shockey did show up for minicamp, a mild surprise, but then remained behind in the locker room when the team practiced instead of supporting his teammates from the sideline.
One thing Burress and Shockey have in common: They are represented by Drew Rosenhaus. Should be a fun summer for GM Jerry Reese. We saw what happened with Terrell Owens in Philly when Rosenhaus overplayed his hand. I can't see Burress allowing this to get out of control like Owens did - no situps in his driveway on national TV — but this could be a wild ride.

The ownership can 'cancel' (ie: cut) any 'contracted' player they have signed. I see no reason why the player should not be allowed the same choice.
The solution here is to make both sides honor a contract. As an owner, if you sign a 38 year old to 4 year deal, better make sure it is the correct decision, because if players are not allowed to alter the terms of a contract, owners should not be either.

You take Winslow. We'll take Shockey. Prety straight up trade. TE for TE. Both of those guys need a change of scenery. Sadly, both are represented by Rosenhause. So no difference there either.

How did you become such an expert with football? Did your mommy teach you? You obviously have no clue what you are talking about. The Giants are a class organization and they do have a great roster you pea brain. We have plenty of "goog" players to challenge for the title again and we have a ton of receivers, so Plax and Shockey better be careful.

As for Burress, I give him "props" for playing through the season with a high ankle sprain. I know from experience that it's a mother of a painful injury, but if you recall, Shockey played through the 2006 season with a similar injury. He had a very inspirational season, even though the drama within the team appeared to never end.
Both these players are assets to the NY GIANTS.
As for more pay...an increase in salary to both these veterans is in order. The problem with the NFL is that rookies are getting paid an astronomical amount of money without proving their talents/abilities in the NFL. College football and NFL football are totally different football systems. Veterans have already proven themselves and should be rewarded for their hard work.
The NY GIANTS are not an "over-rated" team. If anything they were under-rated in 2007. They were underdogs all season long. They were not even expected to beat "America's Team" in the play-offs after losing to that same team twice in the season. By the way, who made them "America's Team???"
