When the New York Giants were preparing to face the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, they had something much more valuable than hours of game film to lean on. They had the experience of having played them just five weeks earlier. And it hurt the Patriots that, in their quest to finish the regular season 16-0, they held nothing back in that otherwise meaningless game, according to the New York Daily News.
So why would the Giants risk showing the Vikings anything Sunday in Minneapolis, in a game that means nothing to Big Blue? Just on the chance that they might see the Vikings (9-6) in the playoffs (Minnesota can clinch the NFC North with a win, or a wild-card spot with a tie and some help), why would the Giants (12-3) want to give the Vikings the advantage the Patriots gave them last year?
"You can't play like that," receiver Amani Toomer said. "You never know who you're going to play, so we're not going to hold anything back. That doesn't seem like how Coach (Tom) Coughlin would play the game."
"I think you just do what you have to do to win the football game, regardless," added left tackle David Diehl. "Don't get me wrong, there's little different things you can do here or there. But we are who we are. This is our 16th game. We've shown what we do."
