Garcia's calf injury isn't serious

The injury bug bit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and gave the team a scrare when quarterback Jeff Garcia and defensive tackle Jovan Haye had to leave Thursday morning's practice with a calf and groin injury, respectively.

The Bucs were relieved to learn on Thursday that neither injury is serious. Both Garcia and Haye are listed as day-to-day.

"It's pretty much the same as yesterday," said Bucs head coach Jon Gruden. "It's not anything serious. Jeff will be day-to-day. The same goes for Jovan Haye. He's got a groin strain, but fortunately neither injury is serious. They'll be out for a few days. We'll keep you updated."

Garcia, 38, was excused from the first two days of practice to attend the 35th-anniversary celebration of his father's junior college football team's championship in California. Gruden suggested QB Luke McCown would receive the majority of reps in place of Garcia, who helped the Bucs win the NFC South division title and earned a trip to the Pro Bowl in the process while missing three games due to injury in 2007.

"We haven't made any decisions on that," Gruden said when asked if Garcia would miss Tampa Bay's first preseason game of the year vs. Miami on Aug. 9. "Luke McCown is a guy we want to take a lot of reps. It's a great opportunity for him to do that. It's the same for Brian Griese.

i guess garcia "just didn't feel real crisp" after hurting his calf????? hahaha. anyone remember that? anyways....the bucs aren't getting favre. the pack wants to much, and gruden should be smart enough to know that adding favre wouldn't put that team over the top. so, til it happens, i won't believe any of the rumors of him going to tampa bay.

I really hate Gruden. He's such a redneck. He would never have won a championship if it weren't for Dungee.

#15... You're right about Gruden, If it were not for Tony Dungee, Gruden would have a ring.
    But, REDNECKS are good folks.

As a former FSU student I am sure FSUguy graduated at the top of his class, but even with that disadvantage, he is able to see the truth about "Gruesome". To even be considering an old washed-up quarterback who can't make a decision on retiring, let alone where to throw the ball, shows you how far up his own wahzoo his head is (maybe causing a redneck effect?). Give Simms a chance with the improved O-line - he deserves It.

Ley Simms play? Are you on crack? Even the most optimistic observer would say that Simms did "okay" when he had his chance at the helm. This was three years ago mind you before he lost his spleen. Garcia had the lowest INT percentage in the league last year and led a mediocre offense to the division title. As for Favre, the only person remotely interested in him was Gruden but even he realizes it'll never happen. No one else in Tampa wants the headache.
Dungy rocks, but let's give credit where credit's due. Monte Kiffin was the real wizard behind the curtain. And he got his ring.

I find it amazing that last year at this time people were totally discounting Garcia run with the Eagles and predicting the Bucs would be a last place team and now even after a Pro Bowl and Div Championship he still has to hear people dream about replacing him just like last year. If you dont respect or admire the way Garcia plays just like ALL HIS TEAMATES on every team he has ever played on (minus the &^&^& of the century #81) then you must not really like football. If you want cheer for fluffballs then might i suggest the NBA.

As history shows, Gruesome won the year after Dungy got the shaft. Dungy took a team that was the joke of the NFL and made it a annual powerhouse which is by far harder than taking a powerhouse to the next level and then methodically to mediocre or worst. As far as Garcia goes, I give him all the credit he deserves but he did it with a much better O-line than Simms had. By the way, the last time I heard, no quarterback in the recent past has thrown with his spleen, appendix or tonsils for that matter. and I'm not suggesting Simms replace Garcia but if you read the article, he deserves it more than "McClown".

"How could there be so many losers posting on here? And some of you went to college? Surprising to say the least...."
Talk about a loser, you seem to have about as much value to your input as booyaa. What's really not so surprising is that you don't seem to possess the ability to come up with an original, educated thought on the subject of football, only a worn out cliche. By the way, what's up with the quote marks?... are you quoting yourself or trying to appear elite?
