Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Antonio Bryant's career night at Carolina sent a message to opposing teams, and perhaps his own organization. He's the established go-to guy.

With nine catches, Bryant pulled in 200 receiving yards and two touchdowns, including a one-handed grab as he was diving into the end zone in the fourth quarter.

Veteran receiver Joey Galloway, meanwhile, did not play Monday.

Wednesday, Coach Jon Gruden said Bryant's success has diminished Galloway's impact on the offense. The two play the same position, split end, and Gruden is not about to take Bryant out of the lineup.

Using both at the same time, Gruden said, is not a good option, either.

"It sounds easy, sounds achievable, but Joey is not the kind of guy right now, in my opinion, that's comfortable coming off the bench and playing 18 to 20 plays a game," Gruden said. "He's a guy who functions better when he's playing. Being a third receiver, a guy who comes in and plays situationally, is not for everybody. It's something he's never done. It's hard."

He used to be a great WR. He needs to retire and become a WR's coach for a team.

What is his opinion about coming off the bench? Joey's? Is there a rift because he does not want to accept a diminished role or play his hardest whne in one? Always room for a crafty vet with good hands and decent speed still..

I wouldn't be so eager to crown Antonio Bryant the "go to guy" in Tampa......remember Michael Clayton's phenomenal rookie year?? Everyone was quick to list Clayton as the deep threat in Tampa
What has happened to him since......Receivers ebb and flow on a periodic basis......one falls into a slump and others hit their stride......Just look what's going on in New Orleans.....Lance Moore is having a breakout year.....It also depends on the comfort level the QB has with the WR.....I guess Jeff Garcia developed a good rapport and timing with Bryant while Galloway struggled with a foot injury......Galloway is a phenomenal receiver......maybe this might be the year he hangs up the cleats and closes the locker......There's always an opportunity for him to become a WR coach.....teach the raw younger receivers in maintaining good routes and making sharp cuts

If Joey does retire I hope he comes back home to Bellaire Ohio & save his old high school team from a coach that destroyed a once power house team. This man donates alot to the team plus he takes care of the kids in the valley especially at X Mas time. Patriots r cheaters this man gives to people no matter the color of their skin. So your comment is very ignorant.

I can't believe he would rather not play than accept a reduced role. if that were the case, TB would surely cut him loose. There's more going on here than meets the eye.

Brainwashed huh. No i don't like watermelon. And i don't suppose you would feel that you fit into the New United States of America where bigotry and racism will not be tolerated. We are'nt there yet but with the young of this country opening their eyes to the sort of hatred you have promoted in the past, racism will finally abolished. Don't worry i am sure you don't have that much longer to spread your hate.
