Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre, 37, will make his decision on retirement in the next few weeks he said, after helping his team defeat the Bears, 26-7 on Sunday night.

"If this is my last game, I want to remember it," said a tearful Favre. "It's tough. I love these guys. I love this game. What a great way to go out against a great football team. I couldn't ask for a better way to get out."

I wouldnt really know what to tell Brett. I mean the last two or three years have been painful, but just before them the packers and him were in the playoffs every year. I could be the same story next year, so I guess we will have to see.

I really hope he does return. Last year was the only real painful one to get through. I chalk that 4-12 season up as poor management by Thompson. To surround a veteren player with rookie linemen is asking for trouble. I showed again this year too. If they keep that line together this season or add some good veterens then their passing and running games get that much better. 8-8 is a great place to be when a team is on the uphill swing. should see at least 10-6 next season.

when brett does leave, a little bit of the nfl will die. there is no doubt that he and his great attitude and couragousness will be missed along with his humour and love for the game. yet, it will be here sooner than we want it. whether this year or the next couple.with that being said, there is no way that any other quarterback with the same line and crappy play calling did any better then 4-12 last year. and probably no other quarterback could have gone 8-8 this year with a rebuilding team. brett still has it and the packers still need it.either way, i would love to be in bretts shoes and hate it at the same time. good luck brett!

The Packers really have to ask themselves, if we are going with a rookie team why not go with a young quarterback.
Brett can still play but his he the best thing for the team. I think that is really what is going thru Farve's mind as he makes his decision on retirement.

phil simms was the one that said, you should play 4-5 more years after you think you are done. this will eliminate any regret after you are gone. this would be year 2 or 3 of uncertainty for favre. i think he owes it to himself to get those records that will cap one of the best careers in history. favre helped returned the winning mystique back to green bay after it had left for so many years. he now he has an opportunity to get us started in the right direction again before he leaves. i think football is still in his heart and will come back for no more than 2 years. i would just love to see brett go out at home, you would think the nfl could arange that for him next year. good luck brett and hope to see you next year!!!

If Favre returns it should be with a different team. The 8-8 record is no indication how bad the Pack is. They shouldn't have won on Sunday and they shouldn't have beaten the Vikings twice. the Vikes and Lions will both be better next year and the Pack won't have as easy a path to .500. Favre in K.C. or Jacksonville would make more sense. Even in Miami would be a good fit for him. Last year I would have said go home to New Orleans but Brees is in in a big way now. Brett don't come back unless you change teams. It will only get more painfull in Green Bay.

My two thoughts. 1) He has the all the skills to lead a team and he has a young team with a lot of potential. In that, he'd come back. 2) it would add to his legend to quit when he had all his skills and walk away now, especially since in doing so, he would walk away from establishing quarterback records that would never be broken. It would be a measure of his heroism to leave those records in the hands of others, records he could easily overtake. In that, he'd quit.

No one even knew tha New Orleans was going to be any good this year. Last year I would have said that the Bears were going to win the division and named all of the right playoff teams.

i cried along with brett following the bears game, i actually got sick to my stomach thinking that it was over, and if it was truly his last game, i want to thank brett for the past 16 years. for his courage, for his passion for the game, for his passion for the green bay packers, there has never been, nor will there ever be such a warrior again. you dont have to be a packer fan to appreciate all he has done for the game, he will be missed by everyone.if i might add one other note, this regarding the post above referring to the quality of players that currently make up the packers. no qb, and i mean no qb could have gotten this team to 8-8, it is remarkable what farve did this year, any other qb would have thrown in the towel, but not farve, he doesnt know how to quit.i have to close now, my eyes are once again beginning to water, all i can say at this time is, brett, whatever you decide regarding your pending retirement, may god bless both you and your loving family.

    Billie and Leon,
The Pack have a very predicatable 8-8 record for next season. The can very easily win 5 games at home and 3 on the road. The were playing the best defense of any NFL team over the last 4 weeks. I don't want to hear that the talent of these 4 teams was sub-par. SF beat the Seahawks-twice! The Bears are on the verge of the Super Bowl. The Lions just beat Dallas-another playoff team. And then there are the Vikings. I think the end of this season gave us a glimpse of a group of guys coming together. We need some great draft picks and a few FA's to take us to the next level.

It will truly be a sad day for the NFL when Brett Favre retires - not a lot of classy players like him left in the league - I personally would love to see him play again next year - he's still better than the majority of the quarterbacks and he is so much fun to watch play - there is so much passion to his football - to him it still is a game! This Cincinnatian says come back for one more year - its been a heck of a ride!

    Hey az_icebowl,
If Favre is going to make a run through the playoffs to end his career it won't be with the Packers. Even if they do improve next year so will the Vikes and the Lions. It will again be tough to send more than one team to the playoffs from the NFC north and I'm not betting on the Packers to win the division next year. I realize that most Packers fans are so jaded that they thought they would go from 4-12 to the division title this year. Didn't happen! Never an option. Not happening next year. If Favre plays next year it should be somewhere else. How about Houston? That would be close to home. He would have recievers to throw to. I like it!

Listen, Brett you need to come back!!!!! I predicted that you and the team would win those last 4 games, and finish 8-8. Look you should have beaten St. Louis and Buffulo, you know that, so G.B. would have had a home playoff game. You can still move and throw with the best quarterbacks, even Peyton. So why cause the Packers to face several years of loosing seasons if you leave. Talk w/management, tell them you want someone like a "Jerry Rice" receivers add that to Brookes, and G.B. goes all the way next year, Go out with another S.Bowl Ring, don't let us old-timer G.B. fans down, come back Gunslinger Brett!!!!!! Go Packers

The Packers hit their low last year. They will make the playoffs next year.
Green Bay: sign some big name offensive players with some of that salary cap money and give favre some weapons to work with
Favre: Come back 1 or 2 seasons with very good potential of going deep into the playoffs. With the season finishing at 8-8(with two heart break losses), this team should have no problem making a run next year, especially if they sign some veteran players. Also come back because you are still good. Better than 60% of the qb's in the league.
Fans: Get ready to cheer on another super bowl team with the best quarterback that ever played the game at throne!!

The Packer's will pick up Randy Moss, Tony Gonzalez and a solid safety to push them into contention. this will bring Favre back!

Gonzales is going to Minnesota with his buddy Tony Richardson. Moss does need a new home. If he leaves Oakland he will be front runner for comeback player if he has any kind of year. Green Bay won't be Moss's first choice though.

Wake Up T.O., Grow Up, Why not join Brett and the America's Team, The Green Bay Packers! Sign Jerome Bettis, get Jerry Rice Back, Moss, Gonzalez, and get some players like a refrigerator to keep those players off your back, you still young Brett, and it's up-and-up for the packers if you stay, a loosing season if you leave!!! Aikman, Young, they say keep playing, why should you quit, you still move like Vick, and throw fastballs like Peyton. I don't care about those records, either do you, just want the Packers to convince you that they will give you those weopens you need to make the playoffs next year. See ya next year Brett, No. 4 back on that playing field!!!! GO PACKERS

Get Brett some O-Line help and all will be right in Packer-land. It is a real shame that a man his age should have to run like Vince Young to get the job done.

to me, he should return and make next season his last. let the fans have the farewell tour. let him break the rest of marinos records. let him play with an offensive line and receiving corps that has one more year of experience. let him work with the young guys on the team one more year. let him play with a team that may have a few more decent free agents (theyll have a lot of salary cap room next year.) let him work his magic one last time. and - let everyone know ahead of time that this is, in fact, the last year. that way we can love him up, and not be held hostage to him in the off-season, either.
