Five-time Pro Bowl linebacker Keith Brooking has been moved to his natural weakside spot after spending most of the past three seasons playing middle linebacker out of necessity. Second-round draft choice Curtis Lofton is at middle linebacker, along with second-year Georgia product Tony Taylor.

Brooking has been candid about his preference to play in space as an outside linebacker but the switch might not be permanent.

"We've said from the very beginning that we're going to cross-train all of our guys," Atlanta coach Mike Smith said. "Curtis can play outside linebacker, too. Keith's natural position and the position he's probably had the most success in the league has been at 'Will' linebacker."

Does it really matter? They are a bad team and will be bad for a long time... Of course not as bad as the Lions!!!

You'd think that a Cardinals fan would have more sympathy for a rebuilding team, since they're basically the most pathetic franchise in NFL history...
I'm not a Falcons fan, but here's to an speedy rebuilding process. You deserve something to be excited about after the Michael Vick fiasco.

Bunch of ATL haters out here. The "New & Improved" QB will possess the skills of Farve and Manning with good coaching. He already has the technical aspect down and the plays don't need to be "dumbed down" like our previous QB. All in all, it was a good pick. The summer of 2009 should be a good year in the ATL. We'll see.

I wouldn't be so optimistic about the upcoming year for the Falcons... Even look back at Peyton in Indy and Troy Aikman in Dallas way back when... They started their first year and took a lot of lumps, but that's how they adapted. I don't think Ryan will be as good as either of these players, but I think he's going to learn a lot from this year, as long as he doesn't get scared off (a la David Carr, formerly of the Texans). A lot goes into the making of a good NFL QB, and I think Ryan has a good start. All that being said, back to the story at hand... Brooking being on the outside is a much better attack then having him in the middle? Why? Simple as this... Brooking will need either a REALLY good tackle or a tackle and a tight end to block him and keep him from the opposing QB. Even if the opposing team has a good offensive tackle, Brooking will still have to be double teamed at times... That leaves options open to the defense and chances are someone will sneak through the line. I mean, come on, one of these young kids is going to figure it out and help Brooking out... And even if the tight end has to help block Brooking, or Brooking holds him up while the TE is trying to run a pass route, that causes another problem for the offense...In the middle, Brooking had nowhere to go. No freedom, no chance to roam... Wherever he went, someone was there to block him. If he goes up the middle, a center and two guards; left or right, a guard and a tackle... He had no chance to do much. On the outside he can get a two or three step head start before running by or pancaking someone... Just a much better scenario to let him roam on the end of the D line... Brooking could get plenty of tackles in the middle after the ball left the line of scrimmage because he'd have an equal shot of going to the right or left, but on the outside, he can be more disruptive, and I think that's needed much more at this point...

Sounds like he's got no problem playing in the position so why not make the move if you got some new talent to put in his place and know he;ll still be on the field leading the D

Wow..#16 sounds well versed in football fundamentals (lol), I agree with you #15, having had Brooking on my fantasy team for the last 3 years, I really look forward to this move. I feel bad for ATL fans who have had to suffer the Vick fiasco, the guy was never a real QB, he didn't pass well, and tried to run every opportunity he got. (see;Vick's rushing yds.)Some consider this exciting, for me it looked foolish and selfish.Go get them Brookings!
Now he is the kind of player you want to watch(Brookings)
