Ex-Lion Kevin Jones meets with Patriots

The New England Patriots visited with free-agent running back Kevin Jones last week at Gillette Stadium, a league source told the Boston Globe.

The speedy Jones, a first-round draft choice of the Lions in 2004, is recovering from a torn ACL. The Patriots had been high on Jones when he was coming out of Virginia Tech, and were prepared to scoop him up with the No. 32 overall selection in that draft, but the Lions swooped in with a trade and picked him at No. 31.

The Patriots are well stocked at running back, with Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, Heath Evans and Kyle Eckel atop the depth chart.

kevin jones was an excellent back when healthy, but that was way back in 04. i think he could better compliment the jets and hopefully they'll take a look at him.

I wouldn't exactly refer to having Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, Heath Evans and Kyle Eckel as being "stocked at running back." Get Jones if the price is right.

kevin jones with the patriots. i like the idea. if healthy it will be a great one two punch. jones to be one n maroney to be two. yea its wasnt a misprint. as good of a team patriots are, maroney never had a 1000 yards season. jones had a 1000 yard season during his rookie season when he was healthy for most of the season. so if healthy jones can be a steal!

usually it takes a full year to recover from a torn acl. jones probably won't be able to do much this season, especially early. so this makes sense, the pats can sign him, stash him on ir or pup for a year, they don't need him right now. if he comes all the way back, then somebody else gets cut in '09.

Kevin Jone will be a great addition if the Patriots do sign him. He wil be a Great number 2 for Maroney. yeah a #2 like I said. Maroney hasn't gotten 1000 yards cause he splits carries. whether is was Dillon or Morris. Jones has the speed and toughness to beat out Morris, who the patriots should keep as the 3rd back, and has the experience to press Maroney for carries. but look at this in a good way. Neither will not have to carry the full load and they both will be well rested come playoff time. this would be one of the top decisions the Patriots made all off-season.

He was a good back for the Lions but he can't stay on the field -- he can sign with any team -- It all comes down to if he can stay healthy
