Running back Ronnie Brown participated in practice with a soft cast covering his sprained right thumb Friday. Before Saturday's game against Kansas City, he took off the cast during warm-ups and caught passes with his bare hand. Monday and Tuesday, he practiced without the soft cast.

Thursday, Brown should be ready to go when the Dolphins visit New Orleans for their final exhibition game, coach Tony Sparano said.

"We're just going to take him out there, go through pre-game warm-ups, do those kinds of things, and then I'd like to try to play him," Sparano said. "And we'll see whether or not we can get some carries."

Brown injured his thumb Aug. 16 at Jacksonville. He has been adamant that the injury is not serious and that he wouldn't have missed any time if this were the regular season. In the meantime, Brown has been able to further strengthen his surgically repaired right knee in preparation for the regular-season opener Sept. 7 against the New York Jets. Since he hurt his thumb, Brown has slipped down the depth chart behind Ricky Williams, but Sparano said he is not ready to anoint Williams the starter.

just curious, where are all the negative effects of rick williams marijuana use?
as a former player, and a current user, i'd like to know how the hell ricky is still being ricky and performing on a very capable level after missing the last couple seasons to enjoy some of what mother nature has to offer.
surely the canadian football league didn't provide the same level of competition the NFL has...and yet it's as though he never left...
in any event, kudos to you mr. williams. you are true role model to midnight tokers around the globe.

Last year...there was no offensive line. RBs got hurt. This year there is a gigantic young agile offensive line that will plow down any team and make big gaping holes for the RBs to run through. Your grandmothers wearing military boots could gain a 1,000 yards this year. Miami has probably the biggest offensive line this year.
And ask for the jokes about the marijuana....That's getting old...The only thing that Ricky is smoking these days is your teams cover guys. He is in the best shape of his life and running as he did when he was the number 1 RB in the NFL. Put that in your pipe and smoke that. You will need it as you see Ricky running away with score after score. Ronnie Brown will slice your teams up. Can't stop this.

Well I am looking at the division.
JETS....suck with father time at QB. The Dolphins will swarm and knock him out of the game.
Patriots..No film no wins. Cheaters are out of gas this season + they are not the same team this year.
Buffalo....Don't they belong now to The CFL?
Miami..is the clear cut winner. Great QB,,,thanks NY...Great new offensive line and RBs. Killer defensive line.
I say at least 6 to 8 wins thsi year....maybe a Wild Card.
