The Kansas Chiefs have talked with the Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers about a trade involving Allen, who led the NFL in sacks last season. Allen is in Minnesota meeting with the Vikings today, and a visit to Tampa could follow soon the Kansas City Star reported.

Allen had yet to discuss the particulars of a long-term contract with either the Vikings or Buccaneers. But a bigger obstacle could be an agreement between either team and the Chiefs on draft-choice compensation. It's unlikely that either the Vikings or Bucs would be willing to part with two first-round picks as well as satisfy Allen's financial demands with a long-term deal. But one team or both may be willing to part with a first-round and lower-round choice.

By merely engaging in talks with the Vikings and Bucs, the Chiefs have in effect indicated they would accept less than two first-round picks for Allen. It was unclear what changed the Chiefs' thinking in this regard, though they appear to have made little or no progress in negotiating a long-term contract with Allen. The Vikings have the 17th pick in the first round, and the Bucs have the 20th pick. Minnesota has two third-round choices. If the Chiefs sent Allen to the Vikings for Minnesota's first- and initial third-round selections, that would give Kansas City two of the draft's top 17 picks and five of the first 73.

We need to make this happen I decide now a 1st and a 3rd round pick would be great for us in getting a proven DE...

I like that trade Ricky - Mount bag of Garbage is wearing out his welcome.
If that didn't entice them, our 1st and 3rd would be well worth Allen, he's proven at the DE slot, we would have a learning curve for a rookie.
The only thing that makes me not want to do it - Allen has a bit of a rap of drinking and driving, would hate to give him all that cash and then have him suspended...

If this trade were to happen, Minnesota would have arguably the best D-line in the game with Allen and the 2 Williamses. This is bad news for the NFC North. RIP Aaron Rodgers if Minnesota gets him.

With this year's DE class this would be a steal for the Chiefs. Why would the Vikes give up the potential to draft Harvey, Campbell, or even Limas Sweed or a talented corner? DE is not the Vikes only need, and the draft class is deep at the position. With Chilly and Wilf angling for high-character players (read NOT Bryant McKinnie) this move would be more negative than positive.

a 1st and a 3rd is fair compensation for one of, if not the best pass rusher in the nfl. plus, he's only 26 years old... he's not some "has been".
finish this deal, then give the texans our 2nd rounder for rosenfels. with those 2 moves you will have solidified our 2 biggest problems... de and qb. you couldn't draft any better than those 2 trades. if we did both those moves, we're 11-5 division champs and in the playoffs with the potential to do some damage and not just go one and out.

    Slow down there Yikes.
Gruden's got a pocketful of cash and another DE to complete the bookends.
If I'm looking for a new team, and can choose between a frozen dome and mostly nekid women on beaches, I'll pass on the snow.
    Allen's a Buc.

A proven NFL DE like Allen for a 1 & 3 is a good deal, it's unlikely that the Vikes are going to find a better DE at #17 and 3rd rounders are generally developmental players. The Texans have already shot down decent offers from the Vikes for Rosenfels, so there's no reason to believe that they would take a 2nd rounder for him, especially since Schaub got hurt last year.
Trade for Allen, get some backup O'line or D'Back help in the 3rd round, and wait for a Veteran QB to become expendable after the draft.

If the vikes get him our passing defence will jump up 10 times. With him and williams our new saftey from cinci you won't be able to pass deep. You already can't run against us. give kc what they want and worry about getting a qb or backup linebacker in the 2nd round. Vikings going to the bowl this year. ALL DAY!!!

A lot of if's here.....he's a quality player at a weak position for the Vikes but a first and third rounder on the surface is a lot to give. However, with the upgrades the Vikings already made this off-season this move does make a lot of sense and would provide the Vikes with an incredibly, dominent D-Line....Shades of the "Purple People Eaters?"

Am I missing something here? Don't people realize that this guy is a problem-causing drunk? Two DUIs in a short amount of time (3 all together), many MANY problems in college. This is a huge risk, but one I would be willing to take for a 1st/3rd because he his maybe the best outside pass rusher in the NFL. By the way, McKinnie is making WAY too much money for his position and skill- why would KC want his large contract and underachieving self when they don't want to pay Allen? And then what would the Vikes do a LT? That trade would never happen.

IF is a big word! I would love to see him in purple...but im all of a sudden having Koren Robinson flashbacks.....I think of a viking 1st rounder if we were to obtain another player like stonehands Williamson with this years pick , instead of trading it for Allen....Ah what the heck I say DO IT......go Vikes....central division champs again...maybe more.....Maybe we can actually beat the Packers this year!!!! 45-0...........im still bummed about that one!!!

I think that k.c. want's way to much. yeah allen is a good de but i think we shoul knock on carolina's door and inquire about mr. peppers. his value is extremely low this year. so we could probably get him for a 2nd and 3rd round pick this year. and with him and the williams boys on the line mr. peppers could easily get 17.5 sacks this year and we keep our 1st round pic and trade down to like the 23 pick and pickup a cb like cromartie and then our 2 biggest needs would be taken care of and we would get a extra pic for making the trade to go down a few slots.

I would also like to see Allen in MN, but that is a high price to pay. I also think Brian Robison is under-estimated. He'll be a good DE this year. He's got a nose for the ball. There is a good chance McKinnie will be suspended for a few weeks this year, and I honestly think we should try to get Vanderbilt's Chris Williams with #17, not a DE. Allen is expendable to KC becaues they can get either Chris Long or Vernon Gholston with their #1. This trade will allow them to fill all their needs in the draft. I don't think we're in that much of a hurrty to win now, so MN should keep their picks and draft Harvey or Merling.

The pass rush was one of the only things missing on a very talented defense for the Vikings, they NEED to make this happen, even if they have to give up a first round pick this year and a second round for next season. I'm sure the Chiefs would take that in an instant. I mean the Vikings were looking at a pass rusher for their first pick anyways, why not just pick up an already established 26 year old?
