NFL - Sports Rumors

“BillThe news came yesterday via the Chicago Tribune that the Chicago Bears are on the list for former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher. The idea of taking over the Bears or the Houston Texans supposedly "would excite" Cowher.

But current Bears coach Lovie Smith has another two years on his contract and the team supposedly doesn't want to pay two coaches simultaneously, especially if Cowher wants around $10 million annually.

And today the word is that some Bears exec is starting to look for a replacement for Smith and general manager Jerry Angelo, according to the Tribune. Former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, who has spent a lot of time with current Bears quarterback is on the list. The Buffalo Bills are supposedly talking to Shanahan this week about taking over there. Other folks on the list are reportedly Cowher and former Buccaneers and Raiders coach Jon Gruden.

The Bears are officially saying there is nothing to the rumor. Nada.

The McCaskey family doesn't spend big money, they just don't do it.
And Ron Turner isn't going anywhere until Lovie Smith does. There is no point in implementing a stop-gap Offensiver Coordinator that would be gone after 1 year. Not gonna happen.

shut up with the shanahan, gruden, and cowher crap.
the best coach available is marty schottenheimer. this guy does nothing but win and turns around long-suffering losing franchises (browns, redskins, chiefs, chargers). he had only 2 losing seasons in 20 years of coaching.

With a 20 year waiting list for season tickets, the McCaskeys will do nothing to spend money if they don't have to. Bringing good football to Chicago is NOT their priority.
That being said, 10 mill a year for Cower is a bit excessive. Nfl coaches average around 3 mill/ year and I believe the highest is around 5.5 mill.

I dont think the new regime over at Halas Hall is going to continue to accept declining sales especially when they saw a jump in sales after the Cutler trade. The potential profit margin is too high to ignore. However, I dont think they will do anything throughout the course of the season other than have unofficial discussions. I also believe that Cowher or Shanahan have a great chance of coming to Chicago at some level within the Bears.

3 straight years without playoffs. A good chance to finish under .500 this season. The Bears are a billion dollar business, the McCaskeys can't play the cheap card forever if they don't want to see their sales decline. Cower or Shanahan could have the program turned around in two years. Bring on 4-12 if it gets either of the afore mentioned.

You can't loose Ron Turner....if the wide receiver screen were to disappear, there would be no offense. Oh wait, there is no offense WITH the wide receiver screen. Never mind!

I like Marty Schottenheimer fine, but unlike the aforementioned Cowher, Shanahan, and Gruden, he has never had success in the playoffs.

I said it before, once the cards beat them the whole thing falls apart. Cards fans love when this happens. The Texans almost came apart after the cards beat them. This is what happens, cards beat you, and your team falls apart. SUpposedly the cards are just so awful that if they beat your team, the team falls apart. People need to get used to the cards winning, not losing. 7-3 baby. Three game lead and going to win the division. Get used to that as long as Warner is there. Leinhart? Please, get him out. St Pierre the #3 is better.

Yeah the Bears don't need to start bringing down the axe. They just need a couple of roster shake ups and they are back in the saddle.

I say they scrap the whole coaching staff....the only one I would consider keeping is the speacial teams coach and Ron Merinelli...who has done a pretty good job with garbage on the defensive line. For head coach I would go for an offensive minded coach like Shannahan and go after Ron Rivera as the defensive coordinator and Charlie Weis as the offensive coordinator.

I dont place sole blame on Lovie Smith. I would first remove Jerry Angelo and Ron Turner...just like I didnt think Orton was the Bears problem this past year. I like Cutler, but sh!t we could have gotten this production from Orton and saved the picks.
BUT...despite liking Lovie...if Bill Cower comes to town, Id scrap the whole damn thing!! COME ON BEARS, SH!T OR GET OFF THE POT ALREADY!!! FIELD A WINNER!!!

before you start worrying about winning in the playoffs, the bears need to make it first.
at least schottenheimer can get them there. lovie smith can't even get them to play .500 ball.

Yes I agree, out with Turner he sucks, keep Lovie. Angelo should go to for not supplying Cutler with adequate receivers and letting TJ Hous slip through to Seattle.
