Arizona Cardinals running back Beanie Wells(notes) missed the first two games of the season while recovering from knee surgery. He then began increasing the amount of playing time game by game until Week 9 when he had only one attempt that netted him a 2-yard loss. Then he took last Sunday off against the Seattle Seahawks to rest the knee.
Now head coach Ken Whisenhunt is saying that Wells will be practicing and back in action for this Sunday's game with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to AzCardinals.com. In his first game of the season in Week 3 against the Oakland Raiders, he gained 75 yards rushing. His next-best game was 54 yards against the Seahawks.
The Cards will need Wells this week, though, since backups LaRod Stephens-Howling(notes) (hamstring) and Jason Wright(notes) (concussion) are doubtful to see action due to injury. Wells is a 2009 first-round pick out of Ohio State.
