The agent for free-agent center Matt Birk and the Minnesota Vikings are expected to resume contract talks after a productive session last week the Minneapolis Star Tribuner reported.

Birk's agent, Joe Linta, met with Vikings officials at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. Terms were dicussed, but there was no formal offer made from the Vikings. Linta was encouraged with how things went and said talks will continue.

"We will try to bridge some gaps," Linta said. "It seems like the Vikings would like Matt back at some level. We'll keep working during this week."

Birk, a six-time Pro Bowl center and NFL Man of the Year finalist this season, has spent his entire 11-year career with the Vikings. The free-agency period begins at 11 p.m. Thursday, but the Vikings can sign Birk to a new contract before then.
