Berrian will cash in, just not in Chicago

Bernard Berrian of the Chicago Bears is on pace for 79 receptions, 1,087 yards and five touchdowns. Chances are good his act is headed elsewhere when he becomes an unrestricted free agent March 1 according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

After New England's Randy Moss, Berrian is the best free-agent receiver available. Also in the mix will be Dallas' Patrick Crayton, Oakland's Jerry Porter, Houston's Andre Davis and New Orleans' Devery Henderson. In other words, there isn't a lot of competition after Moss, and there should be a fair market for a vertical threat such as Berrian.

That gives you an idea of what the Bears will be looking at if they choose not to pursue Berrian and/or if they bid goodbye to Muhsin Muhammad, who has a salary-cap figure of more than $3.3million in 2008. Berrian doesn't have to be one of the greatest talents in the league to get paid like one after seeing what happened when free agency kicked off last March.

They would be letting a very good player go. Come on Bears, time to pay out...well, as long as Rosenhaus doesn't ask for Randy Moss money for him.

First real post. Do we really need Berrian? How about if we get someone who doesn't drop TD passes?

If we have a weak armed quarterback next year, then his only asset, speed, will not matter. We need a new line and running back. Let's spend our money there. Bag Muhsin while we're at it, too.

Whoever wastes their money in free agency signing any of the Bears' wide receivers to a big contract next season deserves every bad thing that comes from it. It's pretty obvious that there isn't anyone on the Bears offensively other than Devin Hester that is worth spending lots of money on this offseason.
Berrian is at best a #2 or #3 receiver if he's playing anywhere but in Chicago's talentless offense. I would take Jerry Porter, Andre Davis, or Patrick Crayton over Berrian in a heartbeat if I was looking for a wide receiver this offseason.

First we gotta see which way they want to go. I think we need a DL after letting the tank go. we need to beef up our defense and running game. But you cant let him go without trying to work something out.

Chicago's going to let him walk. Berrian is a great slot receiver, not a #1 or #2. Chicago needs a #1 and #2 in about every catagory. Receiver's can come after RB, QB and OL.
