Bears' Smith not getting canned

“LovieThere is apparently a loud cry going up in the Windy City by fans of the Chicago Bears. It basically consists of one unified idea: fire coach Lovie Smith.

The team is 3-3 so there are plenty of other fans around the league (Hello, fans of the St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, Washington Redskins, Kansas City Chiefs, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and Miami Dolphins!) who don't know what Bears fans are so upset about. But there was an expectation for Smith to deliver more this season and his head is apparently being asked to be delivered on a plate by the masses, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The team, however, has no plans to fire Smith, according to the paper. He has two more years and about $11 million left on his contract and Bears owner Virginia McCaskey cannot afford to be paying Smith to not do a job while simultaneously paying someone else $6 million to do the job Smith was supposed to do.

So feel free to exercise your First Amendment rights, Bears fans, but don't expect anything to change for a few years.

It's always the coaches fault , we need a new regime, well careful what you ask for you never know what you are
going to get. However I come from a small school in the suburbs of chicago I was a leyden eagle and wouldn't
you know a very popular coach out there played running back for this very school. So I say bring on the Return of
Mike Shanahan to chicago as the new head coach and reunion of Mike and Jay Cutler. But that's the only solution
Shanahan will draft good bring back a power running game and a couple of good running backs along with him
and will get this ball running the way that Chicago deserves to get this going.

I was hoping Lovie and Co would be gone. Can't stand the look on his face, it is always the same, if we are winning 45 - 10 or losing that bad. I hate it, ZERO ENTHUSIASM!

This is a great setup for Sunday's game against the Brownies. Browns fans will trade you Mangini, (OC) Brian Daboll and a bag of Fritos for Smith. What do you say?

Well I guess it wasn't the QB on the the team the problem ! Cutler for Kyle ....Kyle is donig just fine in Denver ....Cutler well not so good, is it coaching or a difference in player personnal....my guess it's "Coaching"..every team has injuries it's what you do as a team to get ready for each game with the players you have , thats coaching.....cannot fire all the players....so !!!

You can't argue that the Bears have talent. All the players in the NFL have talent. What makes the difference is coaching and motivation.

It has always amused me how the suburbanites call for Lovie's head. Nobody had [profane] to say during the 05-06 run. There is nothing wrong with his system, but there is plenty wrong with the personel on the field.

And Lovie - since you seem to be the only one who doesn't get this - the Tampa 2 is played out. Time to change it.

I hate to say this but our team is going to have a lot of problems for a long time. Look at our future. We are already giving away our first 2 draft picks, out "D" is on a bad decline, No offensive line to speak of. ( poor Cutler) Our coaching sucks. And worst of all theres Jerry Angelo. Nobody even mentions how bad he has been. Anyone in the league could have made the deal for Cutler that he did. Denver wanted him out, and they got an awesome deal for him.
We are going to have a few years of bad football ahead of us with these clowns running things. I just don't see how our team is going to magically get better. We need tooo many gaps to be filled in and not enough time or money.
It is frustrating because we have more than a hand full of talented players on this team. But for some reason we won't get the complementing pieces to the puzzle to make our team compete year after year. Think about it. We were at our best when our division was at its worst. Our players don't even seem to respect the coaches and believe in what the coaches are saying. For example. I was listening to Bears All Access and our line backing core ripped Zach Zaidman a new one. They totally be little'd him, and to me thats a lack of respect for the Team, system, and the coaching. I would have fined them if I were the coach.
Anyway, sorry I had to vent. This hurts to watch. We need a lot of help!!!!!!!!

It's hard to believe that they don't have some sort of buy out claus that would allow them to fire him for underperforming. If that's not the case, they are much stupider than we all suspected.
Next year they have an opportunity to get Shanahan or Cower. Either of those coaches would be a fantastic fit in Chicago though Cower even more so because of the attitude he brings his team.
Lovie is not the right fit in Chicago and isn't living up to the standards that we expect for a Bears team.
    Time to move on.
(Don't even get me started about Turner. I wouldn't have him run my pop warner team)

I just don't understand how a response of "well we were not prepared....we didn't show up" is considered acceptable.
Can any of us imagine if we used that excuse at work?
What if you were off work for a week, came back and completely screwed up, then came back to work the next week and screwed up 100 time worse and said...ah I just didn't show up...sorry...Would that be accepted?

    KurtisA- (aka "big city man")
05-06? Are you kidding me. Yes we did get to the big game. Because of Lovie? NO!
Our D was pretty much at the top of its game. (as the Colts exposed out bad secondary)
That year was a fluke. Our division sucked. The second best team. the Packers were 8-8 and they beat the 3-13 Lions twice. We had a very easy schedule which lead to a bye week in the playoffs and Home field advantage. God forbid we played the Eagles that year. Doesn't matter now cause that didn't happen.
You sound like the Bears whole staff. "Well we made it to the Super Bowl. We'll go from there" These coaches and players all have the ability to watch as much film as they need. They can't see that they are getting owned. Just wait it is going to get better as our competition gets better. Maybe then you can come off of cloud "06". Looking back that year gave me a bunch of False hope for the future.
Now we finally have our franchise QB and we are going to bury him.
So Kevin you insult the "suburbanites" but look at things in a closed minded manner. This team has always done this. They will set short term goals and are content with there sub par accomplishments, not doing anything for the future. A good example of a team doing this would be the Phillies picking up Cliff Lee down the stretch. We never make these kind of moves. Its usually the Chicago way Kevin Jones, Milton Bradley, Bartlo Colon, Hell I can go on all day. The only team in this town with any real stones are the Blackhawks, Why? Well different management. Later All this Cutler deal did was save a few jobs for some bad personal. You have to be able to look at your team and give constructive criticism when needed. Now Is The Time.

Our bears have as many question to answer as swiss cheese has holes. Is it the coaching? maybe the tampa 2 scheme has been completely exposed for what it is, a mediocre scheme? maybe we just dont have the correct personal to run the tampa 2, lord knows the defensive line isnt getting the rush up front we were supposed to this year, and isnt that the base for that defense?. Its also difficult for a quarterback to play his best when he cant even make a 3 step drop throw to a receiver because there are 3 defenders in his face. About the only player in history that could run with such a bad offensive line is Walter (god bless your soul for all the greatness and "SWEETNESS" you showed us on and off the field). we are getting beat on the edges by faster guys, manhandled in the middle by bigger guys, its just a complete mess!!!
Fact of the matter is this team has alot more wrong with it than just the coaching, and thats a very very scary thought.

Yea I'll admit Da Bears are not doing as good as I expected. But it's still early in the season and the Defense is all banged up. Except for the loss to the Bengals, their other two losses have only been by one score. The offense needs to step up like the D did in 05-06. Cutler's first year with a new team, he'll have to work some kinks out but you can't say that the passing game hasn't improved tremendously, while the running game is almost not there. Orton is garbage, he's getting carried by the rest of the team as usual. Can't blame Lovie for what players do on the field. Execution is key and Da Bears have been messing up in the red zone. We could make the wild card this year, if the offense stops making mistakes. But I feel sorry for everyone else next year.

Lovie is not that bad of a coach. He has not lost his team backing. They play hard for Lovie. Unfortunately for Bear fans, they lack talent, especially on offense. The O-line has a hard time blocking and the is no go too receiver. The defense has some problems at linebacker and the defensive backs are limited. Simply put, the Bears need more talent. There is one thing you can't coach and that is talent.
There are a lot of coaches who will be in trouble, or be in trouble, by seasons end. That's the time to judge Lovie Smith. As long as the players play hard for Lovie, he should be fine.

Lovie doesn't inspire anything. He lost my support for two reasons. First is his loyalty to Ron Turner's play calling and second is his hugging Tony Dungy midfield after losing to him in the Super bowl. Virginia, I bet your dad was turning over in his grave. You could get Ron Rivera for a lot less than 6 million so that's a bogus argument. It's too bad you paid lovie more than he's worth.

Bring in Shanahan maybe he can bring an offensive coordinator that belongs in the NFL,and give the defensive play calling to a defensive minded coach!! this team has gotten worse,by the decisions of Lovie. He let go of rivera after his defense took us to the super bowl?wow!!Now he's doing the play calling on defense Great job against the Bengals !!
