Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler(notes) has gotten a lot of grief already by fans for sitting out a major chunk of the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. His absence likely played a big part in his team's loss, and other NFL players seemed happy to pile on him with tweeted criticisms.
Cutler may not be getting an MRI till Monday, but NBC Sports reports that the belief is that Cutler has a torn MCL.
In the postgame, Cutler and head coach Lovie Smith both said that Cutler didn't make the decision to come out, according to ProFootballTalk.com. "There was no decision at all," Smith said, according to the site. "He was injured. He was hurt and he couldn't go. The trainers and doctors ... made that decision."
Cutler may have played a fine season in leading the Bears back to their first division championship since 2006, throwing for 23 touchdowns and 3,274 yards, but the season ended on a sour note.
