The contract extension cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha(notes) reportedly signed with the Oakland Raiders in 2009 seemed outlandish: $28.5 million guaranteed over the first two seasons (2009-10) with the third year being $16.8 million or the average salary of the top five quarterbacks in the league, whichever is higher.
Well, he never made it to that final year since the whole deal became void in January after he didn't reach certain incentives in the contract. When the lockout ends, he will be one of the best defensive players available on the free-agent market.
In his eight seasons with the Raiders, Asomugha has been in on 310 tackles and grabbed 11 interceptions. In 2006-07, he picked off eight passes. Since then, he's had one a year until last season, when he had none.
