Another day, another rumor about a prominent wide receiver the Philadelphia Eagles probably won't be able to trade for this spring. Tuesday the NFL Network's Adam Schefter reported that Anquan Boldin has asked the Arizona Cardinals for a trade. Boldin, 27, got to 300 catches faster than any receiver in NFL history. He has 413 catches in only 68 games since being drafted in the second round in 2003 (yes, the Eagles could have drafted him instead of Jerome McDougle).

Boldin is unhappy with his contract in the wake of the 4-year, $40 million renegotiation the Cards reached last month with wideout Larry Fitzgerald. Boldin has 3 years left on a deal that averages around $4.5 million a year. But the Arizona Republic reports that the Cards told Boldin they will not trade him, which puts him in the same category as the other receivers Eagles fans would like to see the team acquire — Detroit's Roy Williams and Cincinnati's Chad Johnson. (And, of course, Fitzgerald, who earlier this offseason supposedly was going to be dealt because of his ruinous cap number, until Arizona just redid the contract.)

Obviously, the Eagles remain likely to send disgruntled corner Lito Sheppard somewhere this week, for something. There were multiple reports yesterday (in the wake of a Delaware County Daily Times report) that they had asked the Kansas City Chiefs about defensive end Jared Allen, who apparently will be dealt instead of playing under the franchise tender. The Chiefs probably could use Sheppard, though they play a Cover 2 defense in which corners are at least a little less important than they are in the Eagles' system. A source close to the situation said Allen won't be coming to the Eagles.

    First not counting spam. The Eagles keep trying to pawn Lito Sheppard and act as if he's a strong bargaining chip, but from the way teams are reacting, no one is biting. Most likely they will have to package Sheppard with a higher first day pick in order to get anyone of value.

    If the Birds picked up Bouldin it would be a Shoe-IN for the SuperBowl hands down, it would be like the second coming of T.O. only without the look at me im god hysterics that he luggs with him everywhere. As a die hard Eagles fan the window before a complete restructure is closing and we need to act big now and get something like this trade done. I dont believe drafting a WR is the right move as he will have too much to learn in Reid's playbook before he can just jump out and make that kind of impact, we need to trade for a proven wide out.

    #3 yeah right....Dallas is still the team to beat in the NFC and the Eagles also have to deal with the defending super bowl champs. Boldin or no Boldin, the Eagles are still going to have trouble making it to the playoffs.

    John Elway is about the only QB who won a SB after being with a team for a long period of time. I like him but McNabb is your stumbling block.

    #5 Dallas is the team to beat?!?!? You might want to try winning at least ONE playoff game in the past 12 years before making a ridiculous statement like that. Just one, that's all I ask.
    12 YEARS since they last won a playoff game. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12 YEARS!!! You're entering LA Clippers territory.

    Is the Eagles front office really trying to get these WR's or are they just going through the motions to try and appease the fans? It seems to me that there have been a lot of offers made and rejected over the last several weeks (Moss, Fitzgerald, Johnson, etc.) Are they looking for a "champagne player" at "beer" prices? I don't trust Andy Reid to do the right thing. I think he is just going through the motions so he can make the statement that they really tried to get a #1 WR but no one was interested. He will draft a WR somewhere in the later rounds and let him sit for a year or two getting rusty before releasing him or trading him somewhere that he will emerge as a star.

    So the Eagles would be a shoe in with Boldin? Ha hahahaha....the Eagles need to address a few more issues than just a single wide out. One area that sorely needs addressed is a capable backup to Westbrook. The Eagles seem to like drafting running backs that show flashes of being decent players and then nothing for 2 years. I believe that their should be a new coaching system installed in Philly because the west coast offense or whatever off shoot of it Reid is using is no where near as effective as what it was.

    To anthony p: You had your time. Other NFC east teams were weak, but now we are stronger then you- Boldin or not. I bet all you rediculous fans on here are the same ones that cried when the Eagle were losing and boo'ed Mcnabb (a player with the more heart than all of you combined) constantly.     like i said its like everyday i see a rumor on ESPN or Yahoo about the Eagles trying to get a WR or trade Lito Sheppard. Its really getting old and irritating. The Eagles are my favorite team but they just need to stop. No team obviously wants Lito and so they are stuck with him.

    this article has no basis in fact. first they can't spell this future hall of fame players name correctly. boldin! 2nd they got the story all wrong. boldin has not asked for a trade, his agent through that out there as a feeler to see if the cards would be interested which they are clearly not. boldin will be a cardinal probably for the rest of his career, but certainly for the next 5 years. the eagles can only hope to get a man of this character on there team. if boldin was on the cowboys or any other marketable team he would be a household name by now. he is hands down the toughest receiver in the nhl. he man handles defensive backs and safety's like they are little boys. has great hands, and no one can beat his heart and desire. superbowl for the eagles? that is a joke... i bet the cards end up with a better record then they do.

    i completely agree with Zman. Andy Reid is the problem and i have been saying that since the start of last season. His drug addict kids has screwed up his mind and he just needs to quit coaching and let someone else handle the job. Also i dont think the Eagles really want a #1 reciever because if they were that desperate then they could have easily gotten Boldin or Chad Johnson.

    the eagles don't need boldin because defense win games to look at the sb. the birds are good we still make the playoffs this season so ya'll can hate all you want. we'll pick up more people on defense in the draft and vai trade so i'm good with all that,but we need to pick up a rb and have a good run game a throw the ball 30% of the time and mcnabb stays healthy.

    LOL at Jimmy! Easily gotten boldin? Hmmm how does that Scenario play out? He has been under contract, and not seeking a trade, and the organization is not shopping him since he has made 2 pro bowl appearances and is clearly the heart and soul of the team. Want to explain to me how "easy" it is to get him. If it is that easy, then you should just trade for Tom Brady, and LT, I am sure the Chargers are dying to unload him. Too funny.

    Dude, he is not crying. You are uninformed. The Cards and the Agent are leading this, not the player! The just signed Fitz to a rich deal, so they are rightfully taking care of their other marque player to avoid any contract issues. Get the facts....

    Once again, wrong facts.
    First, the cards signed Fitz not because he is valued more, but because his contract was up first! You dont even follow the Cards, so clearly you are out of your league in terms of whats going on. Boldin is in the middle of a contract right now, so they are only redoing it to pay him what he is worth and to keep him happy because he is one of two FRANCHISE Players on the team. Anyone of these two are number 1 recievers on pretty much most the NFL teams. Go look at Boldins numbers and compare them to any receiver in NFL history, and tell me who comes out on top. In terms of a trade.Nobody wants your problem, you keep him. Thats pretty much what the rest of the NFL is telling you.
    The cardinals will finish better then your beloved eagles this year my friend watch for a few reasons. Mainly the division you play in is tough and the NFC West is not. But this season I think the Cards will just be a better team anyway.

    Chris A, in order for the Cardinals to use their weapons and finish better than the Eagles, they need to resolve their backfield problems starting with the QB and second a running back. Two great WR's is a gift that many teams would love to have, but you need a QB that can consistently get the ball to these guys. The Cards will go nowhere until they solve their backfield and defense problems. That is why Lito would be a good fit for them.

    Despite what I've said in the past I'd rather The Eagles keep Lito and go into the season with the recievers they have. Give Reggie another shot at #1 even though he had a bad year last year I still believe he's a #1 caliber WR. If they keep Lito their defense is gonna be unstoppable. There are plenty of good WR's in this weekends draft that only need half a season to learn the system. Go Eagles!!!!
