After an appearance on the David Letterman show where Brett Favre appeared to be waivering on his decision to retire, the Green Bay Packers sent a message regarding their feelings by placing the future Hall of Famer on the reserve/retired list.
Favre no longer holds a spot on the Green Bay Packers' roster and his $11.4 million salary cap charge is off the team's books. It was mostly a matter of procedure and the Packers could have done it as soon as Favre announced his decision to retire March 4. Up until now, the Packers haven't needed Favre's roster spot or his salary cap money (they were roughly $21 million beneath it), but with rosters currently limited to 80 players with none of the previous exemptions from NFL Europa, the club needs some roster space.
The NFL does not require a letter for a player to be placed in a reserve/retired status. The only reason for Favre to sign his retirement papers is so that he can receive his severance pay from the NFL. He can wait years to file them. Still, there could be something symbolic to Favre's decision not to file them. In a series of interviews this week to promote a popular video game, Favre continues to question whether he made the right decision.

no matter where he plays, should he choose to play...
no matter where he retires, should he choose to file those papers...
No matter if he is 87 or 22.
(Sheesh people, last time I checked this is still America).
That all said, IF he DOES return, may God Bless him best if he chooses to return to Green Bay.
hehehe
XOXO

I can't help but think the Packers were sending Brett a message when they announced the retirement of his jersey shortly after he proposed the idea that he would play if Rodgers were injured. If Brett plays again it will not be in a Packer jersey.
I would hate to see Brett stay retired but time marches on and players cannot play forever. He will eternally be one of football's great quarterbacks and it is just a matter of time before he and his career accomplishments will enter the Hall of Fame. I just don't want to see Brett end up like so many players before him broken and pathetic looking on the field of play.
