Are 49ers looking to add Michael Vick?

The San Francisco 49ers are being secretive about their offensive plans, but it's not hard to connect the dots in this case, or so says NFL.com.

The 49ers are interviewed former Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Reeves Friday for their offensive coordinator vacancy. Reeves was Atlanta's head coach in 2001, when the team traded for the No. 1 overall draft pick to use on QB Michael Vick.

One day earlier, the 49ers interviewed Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson, who used to coach Vick in Atlanta. And San Francisco also has expressed some interest in former Falcons wide receivers coach Mike Johnson, who coached quarterbacks in Baltimore and also knows Vick well.

So, some of the candidates the 49ers have begun to focus on all have connections to Vick, who could be back in the NFL as early as this summer after being released from federal prison.

No team has a greater need for a quarterback than the 49ers, but this isn't to say they will pursue him. But the coaches they're pursuing now all know and have worked with Vick.

And if that's not enough of a conspiracy theory, then consider this: On Thursday, the 49ers signed former Falcons CB Jimmy Williams, Vick's college teammate who lives in Hampton, Va., the next town over from where Vick has a house.

Pretty weak rumor... as someone who at least respects the team of Montana and Young I really hope that's all it is... a rumor.

He is scheduled to complete his sentence in July, when Goodell COULD decide to reinstate him. The league also could impose its own disciplinary action and elect to suspend him. Dealing with PETA, the bad press, and the very real possibility of suspension or disciplinary action would leave me a little concerned if the Niners are thinking Vick is their man this year....

I think that Vick could make a go at it in Detroit. They have already faced all of the scrutiny most people can throw at them, and I think the fans would be forgiving of his past if he gets a few wins for them. And if people buy tickets just to boo him, so what.......they're used to that. Even bad publicity that makes money can be welcome in the right setting.

PLZ PLZ don't even consider Micheal Vick that scumbad of the highest order. I have been a 49ner fan since I was 5 years old and through all of the good and bad I have loved the team no matter what. This would definately turn me away from them and wish nothing but bad things for the team. Mike Singeltary and the rest of management can't be this stupid.

I think your going to see Goodell is going to reinstate him, what Vick did was wrong and he is scum but your going to see that some slumping NFL team is going to take him. Remember that old saying "There is no such thing as bad publicity." If Goodell let Adam "Crackman" Jones back into the league after he damn near killed a person, you can bet your ass Vick will be back in football.

The ignorance expressed by people like linebackerheaven and fairplay almost rivals the ineptitude it would take for an NFL general manager to consider handing his team's offense over to a quarterback who's not only missed two seasons, but was never very good in the first place.

Michael Vick is not Matt Cassell though. Cassell, we didnt know what he could bring. Vick we know was the most inaccurate passer in the NFL before he took 2 years off. I dont think the timing routes in Leavenworth were the same as NFL training camp. The shine came off of Michael Vick before the dogfighting scandal. If you remember, the falcons were contemplating another starter but felt they couldn't because of Vick's immense contract. That is a purely football answer, that doesnt take into consideration bringing in a guy who told investigators that he enjoyed using others family pets to bait his dogs.

That seems more like the kind of IDIOTIC move my Raiders across the bay would make! I think Singletary believes firmly that he can change and mold any player to follow his charge and do what needs to be done. I'll play the Devil's Advocate here and say that Vick has NEVER had a fiery kick-ass coach like Singletary before. And maybe it's time for 49er fans to move on from the days of Montana, Walsh, and Eddie D. That was ancient history and teams need to re-invent themselves because the game has changed so much.
So let it be written...The Delta Raider~

I see where the argument is against it, but don't you think for the right price Vick might be worth a shot? It's not like baseball where the contracts are guaranteed. If he becomes a cancer in the clubhouse or just plain stinks, they could always just cut him. I still say draft Sanchez too!

If Singletary wants to go back to the 50's strategy of run run run the ball then Vick fits in perfect because everyone knows that Vick was NEVER a passing QB and 2 years in jail probably did nothing for his accuracy.

It was Vick's scrambling ability that set him apart, not his passer rating. I'm sure he hasn't totally lost that ability as he probably had to scramble in the shower a few times to avoid a "sack" coming at him.

I have to agree with the consensus...for such a storied franchise on the mend...no need to ruin it with someone like Vick! Matt Cassell (if available) is a better choice...although anything is a beter choice than Vick!
