New York Jets wide receiver Plaxico Burress(notes) didn't take part in Thursday morning's practice due to a "personal matter," but returned to action in the afternoon as the team readies itself for a Monday preseason game against the Houston Texans. Unfortunately for him, "his action was limited due to ‘a little more swelling' in his left ankle early in the week," according to the New York Daily News.
"We won't put him out there if we think he's at risk, as with any player," Jets head coach Rex Ryan said, the Daily News reports. "But I'd like to see him get out there for a few snaps. Obviously our first groups won't go a whole lot, but I'm expecting him to play some."
Ryan called the 34-year-old receiver's ankle issues "minor," the paper notes, but doesn't want the injury to linger. "Those ankles, if you don't get them healed, can be a problem throughout the year," Ryan said, according to the Daily News. "We're gonna make sure we get him back to near 100% and then get him out there."
