Defensive end Jared Allen left Minnesota on Sunday without agreeing on a contract with the Vikings according to the Kansas City Star.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings also had not agreed to terms of a trade that would send the discontented Allen to Minnesota in return for draft picks. The trade terms appear to be the bigger impediment. An NFL source indicated that Allen and the Vikings were close enough to an agreement that one could likely be hammered out if the two teams agree on the draft-pick compensation.

Allen could make a visit this week to see the Buccaneers in Tampa.

Tampa won't sign him, they only have 5 draft picks this year and are hesitant to trade them. I almost guarantee Jared Allen will be a Viking this year.

Being a Vikings fan...I am salivating at the chance that we can get this guy; he DESTROYED us in the game last year...and now I couldn't be happier if he becomes apart of the team.
Tarvaris will have no choice but to shine with all he will have around him this year...i hope he gets it done.

Wow. Thats a big suprise. Minnesota dropped the ball again on a deal. When it comes the vikes and making trades for draft picks...our track record sux (i.e. HERSHEL WALKER). Granted, Allen is a completely different player and not in his prime yet. I woulda loved to see this go through but of course....the vikes will continue to dissapoint. Our history of drafting DE isn't good either and we all know thats how Minnesota plans on picking with #17. Remember Erasmus (i'm hurt all the time) James? Demetrius (I like to play with guns and knives) Underwood? Come on Minnesota...DO IT!!!

Dorsey Levens is eligble for the draft again? And as a D-Lineman? I could have sworn that dude retired as an RB from Green Bay. Could Eugene possibly mean Glenn Dorsey, the top DT in the draft from LSU?

Chiefs fan since the Nigerian Nightmare and DDT Derick Thomas was killing QB's. Chiefs need to get a trade done if they are not going to sign him to an extension. Trade him to the Vikes for two 1st round picks or trade him to Cincy for Chad Johnson and a 1st. Accept nothing less than a 1st and 2nd round pick for Allen. Get it done before the draft because it opens up more options. If it goes down right KC can be looking to draft Jake Long and use the Allen pick for a D-lineman in this deep D-line draft. This trade also helps if Jake is not available this trade will open up picks to use their 5th pick for whom ever is available in Dorsey Levens, Chris Long, Vernon Gholston, and Sedrick Elliss. Then with the pick for Allen they can still grab OT Clady. Just get it done before the draft you want to avoid losing Allen for nothing I.E. Pats and Asante Samuals. Hey Pat fans remember you guys will forever be known as the team that cheats for Superbowls, and the team that choked in the not so perfect season. and last the most favored superbowl team that lost, thats right 13 pt favorites and LOST. CHOKE ON A FAT ONE PAT FANS

Be Patient Queen Fans! Queen Carol will let him go for a 3 and a 4, a few grand in cash, and a trip to GreenBay. Don't worry. We in KC know when you have nothing it only gets worse. Herms the Man, just ask Clark. And don't worry about them Queens going to LA. Thats a Chiefette deal as soon as they bottom out 0-16 next 2 years. They already changed the color of the seats from Queen Purple to Chiefette pink I hear. Go QUEENS.

No way anybody gives KC 2 # 1 draft choices for Allen. Vikes will give them a # 1 and a low round draft choice (4th or less) and that's it.If no deal-- then no problem we will sign him next year for nothing !

as good as Allen is, in no way is he worth 2 1st round picks. KC fans need to walk away from that idea because no one will touch it. I'd would not go any higher than a 1st and a 3rd or a 1st and a player this year - maybe just maybe a 1st this year and a 2nd next year but that would be very hard to let go of.

Vikes need a pash rushing DE and they definitely won't get a better one than Allen with the #17 pick. 1st & 3rd pick for Allen would be fine...anything more would be too steep. Go get him...get it done! Go vikes!

allen will go to minnesota for their 1st and 3rd pick. minnesota and kc cannot decide which 3rd pick. minnesota has the 10th and the 17th pick in the 3rd. kc wants the 10th while minnesota wants to give up the 17th. OR minnesota will wait till after the draft, sign allen to a offer sheet. since kc also needs a OL why not send the 1st rd pick and mckinnie? then pick up a OL in the draft. save the 2-3rd picks. either way allen will no doubt be a viking soon!!

''Vikes need a pash rushing DE and they definitely won't get a better one than Allen''
I caution you folks who think 1 player will tip the balance to either NFL team. Football is very much a team sport. I think the Vikings could use a good pass rusher at DE. But I also think Allens best days are numbered. I have little time for any player who has had 3 DWI's. Not because of the charges but because of the reasoning behind getting drunk in the first place,. The act itself strongly suggests person problems and possibly greed,. He was certainly not thinking of the team, or the teams future, while slamming down the booze,. I realize he is a great DE. But what else is going on in his life? The Vikings don't need any more problematic players.

Best case scenario for the Vikings is as HardBar presented, we will wait untill after the draft to present Allen with an offer sheet,(He will be out of Kansas City next year and they will get nothing out of it so they won't match) therefore they will get our first round next year (likely to be 20+) and the following years 1st round. so we will be able to get what we want in the draft. If I see one more reference or comparison to the Hershel Wlaker trade made again, I'm going to P-U-K-E!!1st off, that trade was forever ago, 2nd there's a new G.M, coach and owner. Quit being stupid and read the reports, Allen want's to come to Minnesota, it's K.C. who's holding up the deal because they wanna force 2 first round pick's out of us, hopefully we can land him for a 1st and 3rd this year(we have 2 -3rd round picks in 2008). Allen would be worth a first this year and a 2nd next year but definately not worth 2 first rounders. They will be patient and cautious so they DONT repeat the past. I hope as much as anyone that Allen is in purple next year..GO VIKINGS!!!! Michigan's #1 Viking fan!!!

The only reason the hershal trade is being talked about is because the vikes traded away numerous draft picks for him. Those picks ended up building the Dallas Dynasty of the 90's. Bottom line and the point of those comments is that the vikes are tarded when it comes to negotations on trades and picks. We always give up too much and don't get anything in return. Jared Allen is obviously a different and much better/younger player.

KaGe M, I'm with you. Most of these people were not even around or paying attention when the mighty Mike Lynn made that Walker trade. If they were they would know that that the Coach Jerry Burns refused to use the man in an effort to ouster Mike Lynn from the good grace of the then 10 member ownership group. The fact of the matter is the Vikes traded for arguably the biggest horse in any stable at the time and then never put him on the track. He averaged 11 carries per game for the three years he was here. We were cheated out of knowing just how good of a trade that was by a foul mouth rotten coach who refused to do the job he was hired to do. I realize they gave up the stable to get this one horse but then to not put him in the I-formation and run the crap out of him was inexcusible. Obviously Childress is smarter than that. Look at AP last year. When you have a horse you put them on the track. Allen would put the vikes defense well into the top half of the league. A first and a third is well worth it.

Chuck..I'm sure 99.9% of the rest of K.C agree's with you, it seem's that your G.M has no loyalty to his players or fans..it's all x's and o's and most of all..$$$..to him, that's too bad, I feel sorry for you guys (even tho you beat us last year...lol..)

looks like Zygi is playing this one pretty smart
Tampa doesn't have the options the Vikes do to make the deal happen
drawing it down to the wire (draft day) will end up playing to the Vikes favor
looks like the Vikes will probably keep their 1st rounder this year
Allen will be wearing purple very soon
signed, just as anxious as everyone else
