NFL - Sports Rumors

The New York Giants can fine receiver Plaxico Burress for refusing to take the field during minicamp, and at least one teammate is frustrated by his decision to negotiate a bigger contract by watching from the sideline the New York Times reported.

"I just think there's a right way and a wrong way to do things," center Shaun O'Hara said. "I think we proved it last year that the team-first concept overcomes everything," he added. "Whether players like it or not, the team is going to move forward. You're either with us or against us."

Burress and tight end Jeremy Shockey continued their protests Thursday, the second day of the mandatory three-day camp at Giants Stadium. Burress, who has three years left on a six-year contract, said Wednesday that he would not practice again until he received a more lucrative deal. He stood on the sideline Thursday wearing his jersey and holding his helmet. NFL players can be fined up to $8,638 per day for missing minicamp, and the Giants said that they could fine Burress for refusing to practice, despite being present. The team declined to say if it was fining Burress.

Shockey, not cleared to practice because of last season's ankle injury, remained indoors, despite Coach Tom Coughlin's wishes that he watch practice as other injured players did. Shockey has not spoken with the news media this week, but has long been frustrated by his role with the team — too much blocking, not enough pass catching, in his mind — and asked to be traded this off-season.

So let's get this right, when he gets a new contract becaues he "deserves to be treated with respect", and get a boat load of money. The Giants can say well you aren't playing well this year so we aint paying you right. Respect is a 2 way street correct, it would only be fair.
I wish I could "hold out" at my job, I'd be fired in a second, and there would be someone there to replace me in a minute.

I don't mind so much that he's looking for more money, but do it with class. Go to practice Plax and they will take care of you in the end. Don't be like all the other WR head cases.

Drew Rosenhaus is bad for the NFL...Burress and Shocky are both very good players but they need to be there to work on their chemistry with Eli. I think although they are very good the Giants def have other players at their postions (Smith, Toomer, Manningham) that can come in and play. I dont think they are in danger of losing their starting jobs but....

supercolts - Seriously. Why do team sign Rosenhaus clients? I wouldn't even THINK about drafting/signing a Rosenhaus player if I were a GM.

The same reason Scott Boras has clients in MLB, JBK. It blows in both instances, but at the end of the day, if a player has talent, it doesn't matter who their agent is. He'll get signed.
One other thing about Rosenhaus - most of his clients come from the University of Miami (Started with Sapp, many years ago). It's kind of hard to not draft a kid from the U, given their history of NFL excellence (at least 1 first round draft pick for the last 6 drafts) for the past 20+ years.

Just because Drew is their agent, does'nt mean they are a bad seed. Players can always fire the guy and hire someone else.

I hear ya, EV. Sometimes you'll see Boras clients slide in the MLB draft because they don't want to deal with him. But the baseball draft is a lot different than football, obviously. For one, if a Boras client were to slide from.. let's say the 5th overall pick to the the 25th overall pick, Boras will get the same money for his client, regardless. In the NFL, for the most part there's not a ton of wiggle room on what you'll be paid. You'll pretty much get a slight raise over who was drafted in the same place in the draft the previous year. I'd love to see some Rosenhaus clients start to slide in the draft because teams will begin to realize they'll be headaches in the longterm. Then maybe kids out of college will start to wonder if it's in their best interest. Or maybe an alligator can just eat Rosenhaus...

I'm not a giants' fan, but c'mon where is the loyalty on Burress' and Osi's part. The Pats didn't fall apart when they won the SB. Let your agent do the work instead of causing drama.

This is no way to start a season as the champs. These guys need to gow up. Try not honoring a contract in real life and see how far you get.As for sulking in the locker room, this guy is reverting to third grade level, i wish we had traded the bum when we had a chance. Rosenhooker is bad for fans and teams.,period.

What exactly did he do last year that was so amazing? 70 catches for 1025 yards and 12 TDs. 4.3 catches and 64 yds/game. I mean, they're not bad numbers, but he was no Randy Moss. One nice TD catch in the Superbowl when there wasn't a defender within 8 yards and you were all alone and I could've caught it doesn't net you a new contract Plax....

Congrats to Shaun O'Hara. I say fine them both heavy and call their bluff. Let them walk, whatever. There is no call for this. We don't need any "ocho cinquo cancers" on this group. The TEAM is bigger than these two guys.

Shockey is where he usually is...in the trainers room getting treatment for his broken leg and TENDON INJURY !! He is too hurt to stand on the side-line and watch the practice..just like the Super Bowl. Ship this guy out and get what-ever you can get for a loud mouth and "me first" type of player. He doesn't like to do all the blocking a tight end is supposed to do...he would rather catch passes and all that good stuff. Let him do the good stuff for someone else. I would not care if they shipped him to Dallas..let him join T.O. and the Pak-ster...that way we can stock Americas Team with more solid character guys. Shockey will miss half the games this year anyway with injuries..you can count on it. The real curse to be put on Romeo...T.O. and Shockey yellin for the ball. Just get rid of him..anywhere. GO BIG BLUE !!

Drew used as the scapegoat...typical New York fans. Plastico is a grown man who makes grown man choices. He is playing harder ball now than he did all season long (minus of course his one good play - catching the ball in the last minute of the SB.)
What a bunch of cry babies! Gaints are a joke.

Is this the same Plaxico Burress that a few short years ago was only given a shot by one team to stay in the NFL? The Giants? Yes! He pretended, or his agent at the time pretended the Vikings were interested, which turned out to be not true. The Giants gave him a shot at resurrecting his career and he has, but let's be real and honor a committment for once.
Still waiting for the guy to sign a contract, have a down year, and come back to management and say, "Hey, I didn't perfom as well as I should've, let me knock of a couple million on this contract"

Giants must not be too much of a joke. They beat Dallas when it counted!! Managed to beat all the teams in the playoffs they were underdogs to, including the Pats in the Superbowl. I like Burress. Work with the guy, somehow. I like Shockey too. But Boss can easily fill his shoes.

Odds were that the Pats were going to lose a game it just so happened when they played the Gi-ants
Half the teams in the league could have beaten them on that day.
