In the midst of a tight three-team race for the NFC East lead, the Philadelphia Eagles can’t afford a slip-up against the division’s last-place club.

Based on the Washington Redskins’ play away from the nation’s capital, that shouldn’t be a problem.

The Eagles look to hand the banged-up Redskins a team record-tying ninth straight road loss Sunday, but to do so they’ll have to snap a two-game home skid against Washington.

Philadelphia (6-4) is trying to give the NFC East a third different winner in the past three seasons, but the two most recent champions are standing in their way.

The Eagles could have fallen a game behind the New York Giants and two in back of division-leading Dallas with a loss Sunday in Chicago, and entering the fourth quarter down 20-17 it looked like they might. But one drive after rookie running back LeSean McCoy(notes) lost what looked to be a critical fumble, he capped a 12-play drive with a 10-yard touchdown run to lift Philadelphia to a 24-20 victory.

“Before we started the drive, we kind of huddled up and said a few words,” said McCoy, who had a season-high 99 yards filling in for the injured Brian Westbrook(notes). “(Donovan McNabb(notes)) spoke to us and said, ‘Let’s go. We’ve been in this position before, let’s do it.’ And I think everybody just kind of got together and drove down, inch by inch and play by play.”

The Eagles cap a stretch of four road games in five weeks by visiting Atlanta and the Giants to begin December, but in an East race that may come down to which team has the best record within the division, beating the Redskins (3-7) is critical.

Washington has lost five of six since a 2-2 start, but it hasn’t been blown out. Five of the Redskins’ seven losses have been by eight points or fewer, and they outgained both opponents that beat them by double digits, with four turnovers crippling them in a 27-17 home loss to the Eagles on Oct. 26.

Jason Campbell(notes) and Washington’s offense outgained Dallas 324-305 on Sunday, holding a 6-0 lead with three minutes left in the fourth quarter. Patrick Crayton(notes) caught a touchdown pass from Tony Romo(notes) with 2:41 to play, however, and the Cowboys held on to win 7-6 and hand the Redskins their eighth consecutive road loss.

“To lose it like that in the end in a hostile situation, it’s just so hard,” coach Jim Zorn said. “Yet, we hung in there. I believe this is a special team of players who will not just chuck things in being 3-7.”

A loss in Philadelphia would tie Washington’s record for consecutive road losses at nine, set from Nov. 6, 1960, to Nov. 5, 1961.

Unfortunately for Zorn, his list of healthy players is seemingly dwindling by the day. Running back Ladell Betts(notes), backing up the injured Clinton Portis(notes), tore the MCL and ACL in his left knee Sunday, and two other Redskins joined him this week on injured reserved - including guard Chad Rinehart(notes).

Rinehart is the third Washington offensive lineman to be put on IR, and guard Mike Williams is unlikely to play again this week due to an ankle injury. If he can’t go, undrafted rookie Edwin Williams(notes) will get the start at right guard, becoming the 10th Redskins offensive lineman to start a game.

Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth(notes) (hip) and cornerback DeAngelo Hall(notes) (knee) are questionable, while tight end Chris Cooley(notes) (ankle) remains out.

“Brutal. Brutal. It’s been brutal,” said running back Rock Cartwright(notes), who on Sunday will make his first start since Dec. 27, 2003 - also against the Eagles. “Hate to lose a guy like Ladell. Hate to lose a guy like Rinehart. We lost a lot of key guys we planned on having for the season.”

The potential loss of Hall could be critical to the league’s No. 1 pass defense (161.6 yards per game), while missing Haynesworth for a second straight week may allow McCoy more room to run.

Perhaps Washington’s biggest concern, though, is DeSean Jackson(notes). The speedy second-year receiver had eight catches for 107 yards and a touchdown in Chicago, and he had a 57-yard TD reception and a 67-yard scoring run in the Week 7 win over Washington.

Jackson also returned a punt 68 yards for a touchdown in a 23-17 home loss to the Redskins last season.

Donovan McNabb hasn’t thrown an interception in six consecutive games versus Washington, but his TD to Jackson last month was the only one he’s thrown in his past three contests against the Redskins.

McNabb has a career 76.2 passer rating at home against Washington, and Philadelphia’s offense has produced one offensive touchdown in the series’ past two games at Lincoln Financial Field despite not having a turnover.

If the NFL were a prison, and the teams were the inmates, the Redskins would be everybody's b!tch.

The Redskins are for suck. They should hire Lubaolong right now to be their coach. Then they would win 147 consecutive Super Bowls. He's super bright and pwns everyone who tries to say he's stupid. In fact, he would have had the highest score ever on the MCAT if he hadn't suffered from a sleep condition. He's the smartest gas station attendant in all of Kentucky and a 53 year old coworker just asked him out yesterday. (She is a bit chubby but not disgusting and could pass for 40.) Yeah Lubaolong! Go Lubaolong!

I have been a die hard skins fan for over 30 years and I get so tired of watching this team self destruct each week and season. I am proud of their no quit attitude but with Zorn as their coach they have developed a losers mentality. They play each week not to lose instead of an aggressive step on their throat menatality. After Tryon's pick where Chris Wilson deflected the ball they get down to the 10 and hand the ball off 2 times in a row. they were playing for the field goal and just like the week before it bit them in the ass. The Eagles or the Cowboys are not that good. With the exception of 2 defensive break downs in the first meeting skins outplayed the Eagles in both meetings. Shut them out in the second half of the Monday night game. Cowboys got an early Christmas present with 2 missed field goals by suisham. Even with all the injuries the skins aren't laying down. Malcolm Kelley and Devin Thomas are starting to step up and be utilized more. These players must go next year, Portis, Carlos Rogers, Smoot, And Jason Campbell. Campbell is a decent qb but is not consistent and never directs comeback wins he always throws a pick or takes a sack. He doesn't move his feet enough and needs to utilize his athletic ability and run more often. The last throw when he short hopped the ball to moss was an example of his inconsistency. He palys scared and even with a banged up line he can't play scared as a qb. Zorn must go vinny cerrato must go. Eagles or cowboys wont do anything in the playoffs Eagles need to win a super bowl to be considered one of the nfc easts elite. Hail to the redskins we will be a force to be reckoned with soon next year or the year after. We are not that far away btw what a baby haynesworth is back to back division games and he sits out 100 million dollar man thats all idiot snyder's fault. Desean Jackson might want to think twice about the dancing and arrogance he displayed he got his bell rung to say the least by London Fletcher. Jackson has the same arrogance as Mcnabb whom btw still has yet to win a super bowl for a franchise that has not held the trophy yet

I had a post at #19, but it didn't show up!! This was a typical match-up between old and hated rivals, Redskins and Eagles. This is one of our toughest match-ups, the Redskins. 'Skins didn't play badly, but, as the saying goes; you have to cry before you can laugh!!! We needed this game, and found the way to get it!!! The 'Skins played with their customary pride, and nearly stole the game, same as they did against Dallas!!!

'Skins have to make changes, I hope that the changes they make help them!! The NFC EAST is STILL THE TOUGHEST DIVISION in the NFL, and when we are clicking, the NFL is all that much better!!

Our Eagles, really, the only thing we have to do is get more disciplined, and rush the football more!!! I REALLY like Shady McCoy, he is as slick as they come, he's got nifty feet, and great vision. Maclin, is off the HOOK, and Desean, I don't like how the Reid got him hurt like that, he is too damn small to be going in the flatlands, where a linebacker can kill him!!! Reid, if you can learn to cool it with the passes, we'll be okay, rush the football to open up the field, create some mismatches!!!

Why get one of your young threats killed trying to prove how tough they are?? It's December, we are going to NEED a RUSHING GAME to continue this struggle!!! What do you do when it's windy, and the ball is floating everywhere?? Whether you have the wind or not, it tough to throw the football 40-50 times in those conditions!!! Andy, get smart, RUSH THE FOOTBALL!!! And get some discipline, the penalties are killing us!!!!

hey,as andy reid says, any win in the national football league is a good win.probably closer than it should have been. but i still dont think that reid gets it about how much better this team is when it runs the ball.yesterday was a must win. the division is still up for grabs. the stinking cowboys are only a game ahead so the eagles can afford to lose these winable games. this week, in atlanta( wish i was going there again, magic city, priceless) is another very winable game for the eagles.

I don't blame Campbell in loss either yeah he had the 2 int in the first half but he came out and played hard and scrambled and looked pretty good, i know there will be fans who disagree and yes he does make mistakes but when you are running for your life as much as he has been who could blame him draft him some offensive linemen and keep them healthy and then see what he does, before everyone wants to boot him out. This loss as well as last weeks Cowboys loss goes to the DEFENSE that cant hold up in the fourth Quarter they may have played good during the other three quarters of these games but this is like a year after year thing were i see this defense when given a lead unable to hold it i mean how many times have the offense scored to take a lead and the defense just lets the other team drive down the field and retake it or tie it besides this year. yes the offense has not scored alot this year but they moved the ball on the Cowboys enough to were a good defense would have been able to come out and shut down the Cowboys and again scoring more points on the Eagles and the defense can't hold.

Lets face it. Once again we played down to our opponant and all most lost the game. Greart game from he rookie's. Oline is getting Mcnab time to throw the ball.Avant is looking like the player they saw coming out of college.

But we still have alot of holes.

One game at a time. One game out of 1st and we still have two more games with the Giants(fading fast) and the Cowgirls( Does Tony know it's December now?) plus two with SF and Atlanta. Dawkins brings his Bronc's in at the end of the year.

5 more games. Have to have 4 more wins.
three might get you in the Playoffs, but 4 will give you the division.

Do you here that Cowgirl fans?????

Skins fans are nuts! We would take Jason Campbell as a backup in Philly in a New York heartbeat. He's not that bad. Your receivers couldn't consistently get open, but when they did, he placed the ball in some nice spots! Your best player is the middle linebacker Fletcher. He is a stud; still after all these years. We'll take him too. You are missing Cooley, Portis (Portis was missing when he was healthy, he might be finished, you know running backs wear out first!) and talent at the wideout. The skins have competed pretty consistently against the Eagles, Giants and 'boys. They are not that far off.

Why are Cowboy fans on the Eagles board? BECAUSE THEY ARE DECEMBER SCARED!!! They know their quarterback is Tony "Let's Get Ready To Cruummble!" Romo. Everybody knows the Cowboys will have a losing record in the month of December because of the pressure. Everybody knows the Eagles will and better have a winning record in December because of the Philly fans and media pressure. The Eagles know they better get their tails in gear and BEAT THE NFC EAST! The Cowboys??? Everyone knows they are ALL hype and no deliver! Now step aside! We are coming after first place and there is nothing you can do about it!
