OL Willie Colon announced he was going to guard.
The move of Colon to guard has been long-discussed but former offensive coordinator Bruce Arians felt Colon was too slow to play guard and preferred him playing right tackle. With Arians out, new coordinator Todd Haley apparently agreed that Colon would be a better fit at guard.
The move wasn't made until after the Steelers drafted guard David DeCastro on the first round and tackle Mike Adams on the second. By moving Colon to guard, it opens up the possibility that both rookies will start the 2012 season in the offensive line.
There was little doubt DeCastro would start, the only question being whether he would stay on the right side, where he played at Stanford, or switch to the left. The Steelers long have leaned on their left guard to be their main pulling guard and DeCastro excels at it. However, he will stay on the right side.
"You should expect both of us pulling," Colon said. "I think we're going to be a lot more balanced."
