RB Aaron Stecker gave the Falcons a boost against his old team, the New Orleans Saints, on Monday night. He was signed on Tuesday after working out for the Falcons on Oct. 20. He ended last season on the Saints' injured reserve list and had hoped to re-sign with them.
With injuries to running backs Ovie Mughelli (calf), Jason Snelling (hamstring) and Jerious Norwood (right hip flexor), Stecker, who played for the Saints from 2004 to 2007, was pressed into service. Stecker caught two passes for 12 yards. "He's picked it up pretty well," offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey said. "He's come in and really, it's been impressive how quickly he was able to learn the system." Snelling and Norwood did not play. Mughelli played. |

With both Jason Snelling and Jerious Norwood inactive on Monday night, Stecker will be the top backup to Michael Turner. Recommendation: Stecker was brought on board just last week, so it's unlikely he'll play a very prominent role unless Michael Turner goes down with an injury. Turner will receive most, if not all, of the carries. |
